Removing the battery to clean the contacts worked wonders for mine. It was acting up and not working randomly even at short distances. After cleaning it's back to working from 100+ yards away.

L IL B, I changed the battery not long ago and I don't remember it making a difference. Just now, I cleaned the contacts with lemon juice and yes, it made a big difference! thanks
