Default Normal Cooling Temp

I recently purchased a 2009 Ram 1500 SLT, 4.7L, 2WD, 34K. The truck runs great and doesn't seem to struggle at any point. However, my normal Coolant Temp is usually around 215 deg. This just seems a little high to me. I know it has the stock thermostat in it and wanted to know if this is something I should have looked at or if it is a normal operating temp? I live in Virginia and the summer temps are typically between 85 and 100 (depending on the weather). Is this too high? BTW, Oil temp ranges anywhere from 130-150.

Welcome to the forum.

The stock thermostat isn't fully open until around 203* so 215 isn't too far off. If it stays fairly consistent, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Seems a little high to me too, I don't like anything over 200 degrees. You can start off by checking your coolant level or possibly a loose or worn belt. Or you can have a shop check it if you don't know how. Since your truck is used, the prior owner could have drained and refilled the coolant without bleeding the air causing it not to fill entirely...just guessing

Mine is a 2011, but, even towing, the temp stays between 205-210, under similar conditions.
