Default Rear Diff Slack

Has anyone noticed the amount of slack there is in the rear diff?I had removed all wheels to install my wheel adapters, and just started rotating the rear tires back and forth, and I bet the wheels will turn 1/2" before bumping out in either direction.I'm not sure of what the backlash spec is for this, but it seems to be too much....Maybe thats why I sometimes here a clunking noise when I put it in gear...Any thoughts!!!

That seems normal to me...that would be about the same as a 1/4 turn at the drive shaft in either direction which is normal.
