Default trailer brake control

Can anyone tell me how the integrated trailer brake control works? I can't find it in the manual and don't know if its proportional or just applies the brakes the same each time by how its set?

its proportional, most ALL controllers built now are. You have the + and- buttons on there and that adjusts the voltage for if you were going to manually use the brake (pull in the slide)

The first controllers were done by brakes full on and and off, but that gets hard on your hitch and your trailer brakes. If you notice when you are braking the voltage levels should vary as you look on the controller. Its not possible to look when you are slow moving but take a peak when your slowing down from a highway, and just try it. Lightly brake check the voltage, and brake hard and see. Should change, thats a proportional controller at work!

Your the second person in 2 weeks that has explained it like that. There was another post 2-3 weeks ago in a response to one of my posts stating that only the prodigy (?) controller was proportional, and that my tekonsha wasn't. I was getting ready to replace the tekonsha until I spoke with a friend in my home town regarding them and he gave me the 'they are on glue' look.

depends on the tekonsha I have the Primus IQ and it is a proportional one. You have to look at the actual model, but most of them that just came out in the past 4 years are so are mostly proportional...

PS. I would like to see this post and see what was said, now im interested

Default Brake Controller

I just installed a Prodige P2 controller. It has a digital readout that also shows whether the trailer brakes are connected and the braking level. It has an accellerometer in the control that applies more brake during hard braking conditions. I bought the Prodige P2 as I did not have the wiring for the integrated controller. I also bought the special connector from etrailer so I just plugged it into the truck plug and into the controller. Pretty simple. 2011 Dodge SLT

Thanks for the reply Nat 769. That's what I was hoping to hear. I haven't hooked up a trailer since the brake control was put in. Guess I would've figured it out if I'd waited

Yup its amazing technology, saves on the trailer brakes and is much easier on the truck. I still do want to manually engage the brakes myself so it works very well.

You had one put in? It was the exact factory one tho right...

Yup. The factory one. Looks great, they added it to the vin. At least I asked them too. They flashed it n it shows up on the evic. But I haven't pulled a trailer with it yet. I don't anticipate tho.

If you had then done then you should be just fine. Best thing to do is just hook it up to whatever trailer your towing and before you drive off just slide the lever to manually check it. Everything should work tho
