New torque converter at 22k miles
So I'm towing some ATV's from FL to TN and the stupid check engine light comes on. They just replaces something on the engine right before I left so I thought it was the same thing (not done properly). Boy am I surprised they need to replace the torque converter. Mines an 09 hemi 3.2 rear 4x4, never abused. Anyway my opinion is once they start doing major surgery the truck will never be right again. Anyone else have any issues with this?
The TC in the 545rfe isn't one of my favorites out there, it's the chief reason there is a roughly 25% parasitic loss of HP between the crank and the rear wheels. Nissan Titans and 'Yota Tundras by comparison only loose about 14%.
But although it's not very efficient, it's not a real problematic part. You hear of them failing, but not often.
However, it's a relatively simple, bolt on component within the transmission so this isn't like a complete tranny over-haul which would make someone uneasy about the tranny from then on.
Think of this more like swapping out the alternator (although a bit more labor intensive) or any other bolt off, bolt in part.
There is no real reason to think you'll have the new TC or the Transmission cause problems in the future because of this repair...

Pretty much exactly the same story as mine.
