Hail storm got my HD, left giant divits all over. Insurance covered the damage, along what was done on the rest of the truck. Bak offered me a "better than normal" discount, but wouldn't cover since it was an act of nature. Figures. Although I didn't really expect them to.

I was kinda miffed that an HD model took that kind of damage, but I loved the cover. So, I'll be ordering a Rollbak in the next couple of months.

Purchased my F1 in June of 2011 and noticed last week after washing/drying and just before I put on my Black Magic UV protectant that there were tiny cracks all over...

Anyhow, I just sent BAKFlip's warranty dept. an email with photos.
I was expecting the fiberglass to lose it's sheen over time - even with a UV blocker - but I wasn't expecting this level of disintegration.
I wonder if using the Black Magic and not the 3M 303 is going to create an issue...

Same issue I had twice, I even used 303 too, they tried to tell me the turtle ice caused it, I re-informed them with a copy of there care instructions no where did it say only use 303, it stated use what you safely use on your car but they recommend 303, they offered to replace again but opted for the rollbak and paid $150 difference b/n the cost of rollbak and my F1, overall I'm happy with the rollbak but not crazy about the way the canister cover is designed, but I will not get another F1, had two and they both cracked even though I took care of them, to me I think it's an issue with the FRP, they are well known for bubbling and cracking, mine always gave off a strong fiberglass odor in the sun, figure to gases heating up and erupting through the FRP. I still have my original one for sale $100 it can be sanded painted or boat paint put on it or used for a work truck, any takers?

I've got something similar happening on one of my panels. It is not cracked, but looks all dried out - almost like you took sandpaper to it. That panel has delaminated from whatever its backer material is and it has some bubbles in it.

I contacted Bak and they said I could send it in for repair, decided it wasn't really worth the trouble since it is still holding out water.

This is what I sent in response to their claim.

Lauren,

Thank you for getting back to me in a timely manner. In response to your explanation I would like to add that If the wax is the issue then you need to specifically note it in your care instructions on your website, I initially used the eagle wax when I initially received it probably 2-3 times until I purchased the 303, always applied by hand and using microfiber cloths, I doubt that's what's causing the cracks, this cover off gases fiberglass odor pretty strong when it sits in the sun which I suspect has something to do with it, on the last cover I used clear turtle ice and meguiars wash/wax and same thing, no where does your FAQ page state do not use wax, I am dismayed that you wouldn't update your site or not send this info to me the last time or as product update if it was so important to the longevity of the material. At this point I am not interested in investing more money into this product due to its apparent durability issue, it would have to be something durable and of course I know the issue with G2 & HD and yes I live in hail zone (South Florida) which is the only reason why I went with the F1 for its reported durability. The only product I would even consider at this point would be the rollbak. I understand you have replaced this cover and now feel that I am causing the issue (I don't), thank you for past service, response, and continued responsive customer service, but I do not feel that I am doing anything against what your site has recommended, the failures of FRP has been well documented over the years from blistering to all out failures of the material due moisture, trapped vapor, etc (been doing some research as of late). I want to stay loyal to your company but feel that this is not a result of my care and maintenance (per you site instructions for care) or you would specifically note it as a "do not use on your cover" on your website which does not equal recommend. Pic below is from your site. Sorry for my rant in advance, I'm just at a loss. Thank you for your time and I await your response.

Erik

Thanks for some more background on the email exchange prior to warranty replacement. So far, haven't heard peep back from BAK Inudstries, so might have to give them a call... As for aging patterns, it's the same on each panel.

So I got an email this morning from Frankie of BAK Industries asking for the part number and shipping address in order to provide a replacement under warranty = AWESOME!!

I didn't have to hassle/argue/debate. Great customer service so far and I'll provide a status update once I receive the replacement...
