Default Fan on at startup

Recently when I start my truck ('11 1500 4x4 HEMI) after it's sat in the garage all night, the fan kicks on. Not the interior a/c or heater fan but the cooling fan. When I asked my Service Mgr. he said that was normal. I find that hard to believe as I thought the fan was driven off the thermostat and kicked in accordingly. Am I missing something?

I have noticed that sometimes. Are you shutting your truck off while the engine fan is still running?I have been letting my fan kick off before shutting the truck down here lately, and haven't noticed the fan turning on at start-up.Maybe the computer is storing the info of the fan being on when you turn your truck off,and turns the fan back on when you start it.IDK.....

No, I haven't. I'm hoping that isn't something that I need to begin doing.

Mine does it almost every time, No Joke. I don't know what causes it, my fan is not on when I shut the truck down either. I don't know whether they have linked it with the cooling system or what but it might be nice to know too.

Is your HVAC vent selector set to Defrost? It'll run the A/C compressor - and the condensor fan.

The clutch fluid when cold settles in the bottom of the clutch causing it to be tight when started cold. After a minute or two, the fluid disperses and the clutch releases as designed until there is enough heat drawn across the clutch from a hot radiator for the fluid to do it's thing and tighten up the clutch as needed to speed up the blades for more cooling.

The a/c and heater is off, the vehicle has been sitting in a garage for 8-10 hours thus no temp in the motor. I don't think the fan should run right at start. I can understand it running after the motor has been running and built up some temp but otherwise it shouldn't be on at startup. It runs as though the truck has been in stop-and-go traffic for a while.
