has anyone had the ridiculous amount of difficulty reaching the oil filter?
The oil filter is easy to reach. I use a plastic cup that is slightly larger in diameter and longer than the filter. I spin the filter off and leave it fall and drain into the cup and everything stays clean. I also use rubber gloves to keep the heat and oil off my hands along with a pair of safety glasses.
I slide under the truck feet first from the front and sit up inside the bumper area and reach in with no problems. The bag trick is amazing! one extra use for wal-mart bags.
I guess it depends where you approach it from. I slide head first from the front of the truck and find it easy to get to. I also slide a gallon freezer bag over it when I remove it to catch the oil. First loosen the filter then put the bag over it and twist off. My truck is a CC 2WD, I don't know about the 4x4s
Brilliant idea, now why didn't I think of that, if I chose to do my own this summer since I am using synthetic gonna do the 6 months since we be at 3 years in march and only have 21000kms and wasting so much money on an oil change every 3 months. Gonna be sure to stick to the book though and well if the light comes on change it then too, or if it looks really dirty.
