Mds growl noise update !
Well I am one of those guys that does not have a problem then...sure I can tell when it kick in and out, but it does not massage my back!
I would encourage you guys to talk to anyone who currently has an aftermarket exhaust on a 3rd Gen, talk to them about drone and how their trucks sound, 4th gen guys have nothing to complain about there.
As far as this rattling and whatnot...has anyone considered the fact that you are cutting the fuel and air off half the motor? AND your using the other 4 cylinders that are running to still drive those pistons that are not experiencing any ignition? I'm sorry but I don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that SOMEWHERE along its cycle its not going to behave properly. Your keeping the same engine displacement but cutting the torque and HP by a bunch? Well...
This whole thing about the a crap torque converter, IMO thats not what is causing the problem. If it was soo crappy why wouldn't everyone experience this issue?...Does it do it with MDS off, doubtful, why do you think people are disabling MDS? (other then some claim to get better MPG) Anyone care to take a look what kind of tranny Chev uses in their trucks? Compare that to the ones in the dodge I think you will be quite surprised what you find out...
Also what happens when you get a misfire on any engine? You get vibration...well whats happening here? 8 cut to 4 (technically a misfire), and vibration.
I REALLY don't mean to sound like a jerk here, but come on! You guys all knew what you were getting into when coming to dodge and MDS and the fact that it goes from 8-4. Then you expect the motor to run PERFECT, technology is a far cry away from making a motor you just cut the power down to almost half , run like a full 8.
Granted it seems some people are experiencing it worse then others, IF at all. No 2 trucks are EXACTLY identical, and when you have a motor spinning at thousands of RPMS, a few 32nds of an inch could be all it needs. Now I have no idea how bad it is but what your explaining, nor could I till I drove it, and if your comparing that to a vehicle that feels like its riding on air or if your comparing it to one thats got slight road vibration. I have no issues with it, nor did I ever hear of anyone with them till I read this post.
IMO this is not somewhere to come and B***** about a known issue. This thread started off with issues with exhaust noise, now its turned into a bunch of people hating MDS...give your heads a shake people...want to complain about vibration make a separate thread. That way you can find the solutions for that!

NATE... wowwwww dude, REALLY...???? "we knew what we were getting into...????" Are you kidding me...????
If this isnt someplace to B*TCH, then why dont you share with all of us where there is a dodge forum that we guys that have problems can do this then. And come to think about it, i didnt see a sign anywhere in here that said we wern`t allowed to complain...!
And firther more, if you KNEW exactly what we were experiencing, then you`d have a MUCH different opinion. Look dude, if you dont like what you`re reading, you have the OPTION to move on to the next post. Everything stated in the post here has EVERYTHING to do with whats going on with the drone the rattle the vibrations some of us are experiencing, so dont get your g-string all wadded up and take it out on the rest of us if we happen to complain a little. If your truck isnt doing what are`s is doing, then so be it, i`m glad your truck is perfect. The rest of us WISH our trucks were as perfect as yours, but they`re not, BUT dodge hyped these trucks up far better than they actually are. Some of us paid ALOT of money and dont like the vibes, the rattles, the droning.
Have a nice night...!

How do you think the user feels when he just posts something about drone and he just gets replies on people who complain about their truck and don't have a lot to say about it thats good?
I also have way to many guys come to me with a new vehicle and then they complain about something, or see something that's broken or not functioning correctly. I ask if they even test drove their vehicle, "ya but I didn't see it then" and now because they have purchased the vehicle, and now they have to deal with the dealer for repairs or concerns, they start complaining and get all angry. I noticed a little vibration when I test drove mine, but it was not enough to concern me. I don't mean to sound perfect, but I definitely check everything before I buy, and research known problems. To those that have done it, it is a known problem. That's why I said you should have known what you are getting into. I just assume people research the trucks before they purchase.
I'm sorry if i have offended everyone, but I am a part of several forums and I have had too many of my threads being jacked by guys going in a different direction and now my problem is not being solved. That being said I have defended my thoughts and that's as far as i'm going to go.
Lu229, your probly right. This is the first tech that knew what i was talking about. He did say the muffler is probly going to be an updated muffler because of changes chrysler will make do to these issues. He said it might be a while until they have a 100% fix, but this should help alot.
I agree, if i would have known the mds is this big of problem, i would have bought a tundra. Atleast we will know what to buy in 2014 when the new tundra and silverados are out.

MDS on my truck is very active. I can get it into 4cyl mode creeping through a subdivision. Yes there are times it feels like a stick shift that needs to downshift. Doesn't bother me or my wife one bit. Until I put the Magnaflow muffler on it was almost undetectable. Its in the design. At least on my triuck it works great. If you don't like it just use the select shift and turn it off.
