Default Michelin LTX MS2 or GY Wrangler SA

I was going to wait until the snow flies to see how the stock HPs would do in winter # 2, but the last few RAIN falls have had me almost sideways on into turns. I think I may want to replace them now.

I have wanted the MS2, but just want to hear if anyone has anything good or bad to say about Wrangler Silent Armor tires. I am looking for something that will still be smooth and quiet on dry roads, not hurt my MPG much, or at all. But give me confidence in the winter, not just for myself, but in case my wife has to drive it in the snow.

The MS2 looks like it will be better in the winter, but the Silent Armor does carry the mountain/snowflake, and the MS2 does not.

Price is similar,

$1300 for the Silent Armor
$1500 for the MS2

All thoughts/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have the LTX MS2 and I can tell you they are not completely awesome in the snow. I get plenty of it up here in NH and I need my 4 wheel drive to get around when there is snow on the roads. Don't get me wrong I haven't gotten stuck with them but they are just not a real aggressive snow tread. That said they are great on the road during wet and dry times. They did not hurt my mileage. I think they even helped. I get 20 Highway consistently. Goes down a bit in the mountains of course. Around 16 on the back roads. They are super quiet and they do very well in the wet. Snow....Not so much....but livable. BTW I got mine for about $1200 during a Sears tire Sale.

Thanks for the reply. Keep in mind my prices are Canadian. We pay more for everything up here. LOL

I am leaning towards the Silent Armor now I think, a little cheaper, and probably better in the winter.

I am going to take a run to the Goodyear shop and have a look in person.

Michelin makes the best tires in general ( IMHO ). I use Michelins on all (three) of our vehicles.

I use the GY Silent Armors on my '09 Ram and on my '01 Dakota. I have never had any issues with these tires, and to be honest, I don't even have to use the 4x4 in snow with these tires. My dakota was a sled with wheels until I put these tires on the truck. I also believe that they are rated 10 for snow, mud, rain and dry conditions and 8 or so for a quiet ride.

I had michelins on my old 2wd Ranger and they were great tires for that truck even in the snow up in northern michigan. I know what you mean about throwing you almost sideways and it's making me think the same thing, so I am going to go w/ the Nitto Terra's....have heard nothing but good reviews!

Heading into a 3rd winter on the original HPs (been snowing on and off for the last 10 hrs) and these must have been from some special batch because contrary to the reputation this tire has, they've worked pretty well in this neck of the woods - winters here run five months or more and this will be my 21st or 22nd... or maybe it's the 23rd , at this location.
Nevertheless, it'll soon be time for the HPs to go and I've been considering those two contenders. Guy I work with has the GY SAs on an Avalanche and he loves em for all the ice and snow we deal with.

Thanks for all the replies, I decided last minute to go with the Silent Armors. Mostly do to the price, and that the Silent Armor are mountain/snowflake rated.

Hope they don't disappoint!

Yeah those certainly have more bite than the LTX MS2 tires. Probably a better choice for snow. I'm still thinking I will get cheap set of rims and get me some better snows....
