anyone elses hemi burn through oil?
You really should not be adding oil based on your pressure reading. The level really has no effect on pressure, until it drops down below the oil pickup tube. That pressure reading has alot of variables associated with it.....That being said, my 2010 Ram has 20k miles, and I notice a bit of blue exhaust when I first start it. Never noticed it before. Glad I have a nice long warranty on it...
Before you get all concerned about the blue smoke, pull your intake tube and see how much oil you are getting through your ccv line into the throttle body. Its not unusual for these motors to spit some oil through there.
I am a fan of driving it like you stole it to break in a motor. I've never had a problem or excessive oil use from any of my motors.
BUT I have always been a fan of warming up motors before beating on them. I see and know of quite a few who don't get this or practice it.
So thinking of this....and the possibility of altering the clearances between any (or just one) area in the motor by cold temp beatings. Oil sipping is possible.
It could be by chance or built on an off day, or something a previous owner did. Who knows. I've got 51k miles and use 0w-20 Amsoil since 20k miles. Change at 5k+ miles and oil is where it was at oil change. My friend has a Hemi in an 05' Jeep and it uses a touch by 5-6k oil change. He uses Mobil 1 5w-20 from Wally World.
Using a quart between changes really is not unusual, some engines will use more oil then others. In my forty plus years as a mechanic/technician I have seen many cars do this. It will not damage your engine in any way unless you don't add it when needed, just keep an eye on it.
It may be just me but it seemed that these cars seemed to run better and many of the owners had well over 200k miles on them with no issues.
Look at it as an excuse to pop the hood and admire that Hemi sitting there doing all the work when you add the oil.

Send a test sample of your mobil1 oil to blackstone labs, after you get your results back, i bet you`ll change oil brands

My Grand Cherokee will use about 1/2 quart between changes, again like my truck, full synthetic every 6k miles. 4.7 HO engine with 102k miles on the clock. I figure 1/2 quart every 6k is pretty good for an engine with over 100k...
