Not really, I've used Mobil1 and 5k change periods for years and none of my vehicles ever had a problem. I usually keep my trucks for 10 years and about 130 - 150,00 miles.

I've had the same experience with conventional oil. I tend to keep my trucks for around 150K - 200K miles (4-6 years). 5K change intervals, usually by the dealer since they always have a coupon deal for about $25 out the door.

I wouldnt concider that to be to bad for a 4.7 engine with that kinda miles, i would concider that to be pretty much the norm.

neither of my 3rd gen rams required any messing with oil between changes. never noticed any less oil either.

just picked up another quart of mobil 1 tonight and will be checking it tomorrow morning.

If Mobil 1 is good enough for the SRT8 vehicles its good enough for ours. 2006 SRT8 Charger with 105xxx and I drive it hard every day.

I just switched to Valvoline Synthetic 5w20. All I notice is a smoother running motor and she seems like she likes the oil, or the catch can not sure did both roughly same time. The dealer always overfills the dam crankcase and when I asked why they said its normal that is why I am supplying my own oil 7 quarts. Exactly what it takes.

I've been using Valvoline SynPower for a good while now. I used Mobil 1 for years and have never had any oil related issues, but I picked up some Royal Purple to try when it was on a crazy sale price here locally (If I remember it was actually buy 1 get 1 free). The Royal Purple noticeably quieted my "Hemi Tick" almost right away. I've since experimented with a few different full synthetics and found that like RP, the tick is noticeably quieter with Valvoline (and it's about $3 a quart cheaper than RP), went back to Mobil 1 once just to see if the tick would be louder again and it was.
Not saying Valvoline or RP is any better than Mobil 1, but there is a difference in the oil that makes the tick quieter with some and louder with others...

Out of curiosity, what is the tick like with conventional oil?

It;s hard to explain, but with conventional dino oil, it seems harder, more metallic, more harsh in the knock.... With Pennzoil Platinum, and some others, it is slightly muted, softer, like it is cushioned, on the other side of the door so to speak. For some strange reason, Mobil 1 sounds the same as dino oil. Even though I am sure Mobil 1 is doing an outstanding job - they have been around for a long time. The Pennzoil and Valvoline seem to be quieter in my book, which is why they are my choice. However, I do buythe synthetic that has the best price point - buying 6 months to a year in advance sure helps wait out the sales. I always try to keep at least one oil change on the shelf, for everything I own, preferrably two.
