anyone elses hemi burn through oil?
#21
Not really, I've used Mobil1 and 5k change periods for years and none of my vehicles ever had a problem. I usually keep my trucks for 10 years and about 130 - 150,00 miles.

I've had the same experience with conventional oil. I tend to keep my trucks for around 150K - 200K miles (4-6 years). 5K change intervals, usually by the dealer since they always have a coupon deal for about $25 out the door.

I wouldnt concider that to be to bad for a 4.7 engine with that kinda miles, i would concider that to be pretty much the norm.

neither of my 3rd gen rams required any messing with oil between changes. never noticed any less oil either.
just picked up another quart of mobil 1 tonight and will be checking it tomorrow morning.

I just switched to Valvoline Synthetic 5w20. All I notice is a smoother running motor and she seems like she likes the oil, or the catch can not sure did both roughly same time. The dealer always overfills the dam crankcase and when I asked why they said its normal that is why I am supplying my own oil 7 quarts. Exactly what it takes.

Not saying Valvoline or RP is any better than Mobil 1, but there is a difference in the oil that makes the tick quieter with some and louder with others...

It;s hard to explain, but with conventional dino oil, it seems harder, more metallic, more harsh in the knock.... With Pennzoil Platinum, and some others, it is slightly muted, softer, like it is cushioned, on the other side of the door so to speak. For some strange reason, Mobil 1 sounds the same as dino oil. Even though I am sure Mobil 1 is doing an outstanding job - they have been around for a long time. The Pennzoil and Valvoline seem to be quieter in my book, which is why they are my choice. However, I do buythe synthetic that has the best price point - buying 6 months to a year in advance sure helps wait out the sales. I always try to keep at least one oil change on the shelf, for everything I own, preferrably two.
