Default 91 Octane

I read an article in a auto mag about the disadvantages of burning gasoline with ethanol added, reg 87 octane has 10%,mid 89 octane has 5% added, premium 91 octane has no ethanol added,Ram recommends mid grade 89 octane but after reading the article I don't want to run ethanol added fuel thru the engine, so I am now using premium ethanol free 91 octane, am I gaining an advantage by doing this or am I costing myself the price difference between the two grades your thoughts would be appreciated.

If you aren't going out of your way to buy the premium fuel then go for it. I personally saw no gain between running straight 91 octane gas and 89 octane with 10% ethanol in it. I ran a test last winter driving 30 miles to work every day and ran 6 weeks on straight gas and 6 weeks on gas with ethanol. This debate has been beat to death on here before so do a search. I'm sure many will disagree with what I have said but those are MY real world results.

I couldnt agree more... infact, my 2010 hemi truck ran better with the E10 than it did with the non ethanol gas. These vehicles are designed around the fact that we HAVE ethanol blended gas today. The only reason people are seeing such broad results, is because of how long the gas sits in the depot and gas stations tanks. If it sits, it goes bad, therfore, our mpg`s suffer. I buy my gas at the same place all the time and see my mpg vary from month to month. Alot also depends on where they are pulling their gas lots from. Small towns will usually get it from the same place every week. Keep in mind, at the time when the blending gets done, some will have less, some will have more. Its a crap shoot no matter where you buy your gas today. Ethanol isnt as bad as some people think. If you drive or use/run something built before 1985, you then might have something to worry about. (IE: older vehicles, weedeaters, chainsaws, motorcycles, snowmobiles)
