Default TPMS valve stem failures

3 of my valve stems are messed up at this point. The area that has threads around the actual valve core has crumbled and broke off. The first one was just gone and I assumed that I hit something with it a little to hard or screwed it up with an air chuck. The other two were broken off inside of the plastic valve caps.
The truck is an 09 1500 4x4 with chrome clad 20" wheels that I only put on to pass the emissions inspections so that the tpms light will go out.

2 questions.
Anyone else having this issue?
Would the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty cover this with just the $100 deductible?

Thoughts?

What are those stems made of? They look a lot different than the ones on my 09 17" rims - which are all metal.

And as for the policy - I'd kind of doubt it but the only way to know is to ask.

The valve stems are a lot less than $100. I transferred my metal style ones over to new rims with no problems.

He's probabally figuring that he'll have to pay someone to break the beads and put them in.

The appear to be pot aluminum.

I was thinking that they are a part of the tpms sensors. Are they just valve stems?

Yes, the stems ARE part of the tpms sensor, they`re all one unit together. (sensor/valvestem)
I`ve been told by my dealership that they`ve been recently updated so they dont do what yours did anymore.
Ask your dealer about replaceing them under warranty (???) They just might do that for you. If they wont do that for you, it wouldnt hurt calling chrysler customer service`s 1-800 number in your owners manual. Squeaky wheel gets the grease so to speak.

Another alternative: (if they wont warranty them for you)
Ther are a few dodge dealers that sell them on ebay, you can get them for probably 1/2 the price of retail on ebaymotors. One thing you need to be certain of, is the part number of the original ones in your truck, the new ones have to match the original ones or the tpms system wont recognize the new sensors. (i`ve been this route already) If i remember right, i think you might have to have the dealer re-flash your truck too, but ask the dealer on that, i`m not sure.

I bought a brand new set of factory sensor/valvestem`s for my extra set of steel rims that i run just in the winter, from stevewhitemotors on ebay. Dont remember what i paid, but i know it wasnt full retail. After installing them, they worked fine and i didnt have to have MY truck re-flashed. For some reason, some need to be re-flashed, some dont, but mine didnt and work perfectly fine.

One more thing i might add, when you get the new sensors, that would be a perfect time to have your tires balanced and rotated. It might help save a little money on replaceing the sensors by giving the shop your business, and they might just cut you a little break on the whole job & price.

Curious, what were your caps made of? Early 09s had metal ones. There was an rrt for them to be replaced with plastic as the cap and stem were "becoming one".

mine did the same thing, dealer would not warranty said I hit something and that they would not cover it.
Went to advance auto, got after market replacements, new sensor, and a replacable stem if I have issues in the future (30 bucks for them a peice, and the replaceable stems are only 12 bucks, where new are over 100 apeice I think.)

they work fine,

I had a simillar problem. The metal cover over the valve stem cracked on one of my wheels.Took into the dealer, and they replaced the valve stem assembly for free.I was told that over tightening the valve stem nut would result in crscking the cover.May have happened when I had my new wheels and tires installed, removing them from my stock wheels.

I was thinking the fact that 3 of the 4 look like they fell apart........would cover the issue of me hitting one on something. Today, the truck won't shift from fourth. So, it's getting a tow anyway.
