You are getting the lower rated set up, this setup is good enough for the capacity of the truck as long as you use a WDH which I highly recommend. The full on hitch that does not come standard and requires removing the factory installed cross member can be a class IV or class V. These hitches give you a lot more capacity without the WDH. You would need one of these if your trailer is not capable of having a WDH used on it like some boat trailers.

I suspected as such because of the price. I may pay the difference for the higher spec and just have them issue me an IOU.

The dealer that my dealer was going to do the trade with sold the truck to another dealer so all of this was for not. Guess I'll be ordering one now as they're nowhere to be found at dealers in the NW.

The hitch I got mounts under the factory crossmemeber on its own cross member... the hitch is rated for substantially more than the truck. Here is the install sheet:

There is an even higher load version:

When you order your new SPORT truck, order the factory hitch, its more hitch than you`ll ever need on a 1/2 ton truck.
Also, order the "remote start" factory installed, you`ll be glad you did.

I respectfully disagree with the first part... the oe hitch is a joke. I fully support that second part of the statement.

No problem with you disagreeing, as a matter of fact, i`m glad you DO disagree, because now you can open up on some facts about this. Personally, i myself, would like to know why you would say that the factory "frame mounted" hitch is a joke. It will more than stand up to anything that these 1/2 ton trucks will ever tow. If the factory installed reciever hitch wasnt up to the job intended, then i dont believe dodge would be installing it. If a person was towing more than its rated for, then expect failure. The hitch i would worry about, is the picture in here of that bumper mounted bolt-on.

re: Remote start, best thing since sliced bread for sure...lol.
Since ordering mine factory installed, i`d never buy another vehicle without it.

Depends on which OE hitch you are talking about - there are 2 options. There is the little receiver piece that basically just bolts under the bumper and ties into the fraame crossmember and there is the factory class 4 which is a full on receiver hitch.

I've got the full on factory class 4 and its as beefy as any other receiver I;ve seen

IIRC (I am currently on the Iraq/Kuwait border and so cannot crawl under my truck) the max rating on the factory hitch is either 5 or 6K (for the "class iv"). Most of the trucks are rated to between 6.5k and 10.5k so the hitch is way under the trucks capacity. Class IV is a size rating not a capacity rating. (Former hitch specialist for uHaul).
