Default Paging wiring gurus - HID with DRL idea

I am interested in retrofitting Morimoto H1s into the stock quad light housing on my 2010 Sport. I am from Canada, so my truck has the daytime running lights (DRLs). Ideally, I would like the cut-off solenoid on the Morimoto to operate as intended (on the high beam circuit). However, the DRL circuit operates on the high beam circuit as well. It is known that the DRLs are activated by a low voltage supplied by the TIPM. I am not an electronics guru, but I was thinking that if it was possible to get a relay that would energize at 12V, but not the 3-4V supplied for the DRLs, that this could be used to supply voltage to actuate (drop-out) the cutoff in the projector. The stock halogen high beam would also be fully lit in the high beam situation.

Two questions:
Does a relay like this exist?
Would this send the TIPM into a fit on the high beam circuit?

I attached a sketch of what I’m thinking.

Or use a relay on the solenoid that doesn't kick in till it has 12v

That is what I am proposing. My worry is that the voltage used to trip the relay may upset the TIPM on the high beam circuit. Thoughts?

There is no relay that is designed to do that. Or I have never seen one in my days as an electrician. You "could" try and find a 12V relay that has a very low cut out voltage, but my guess is you will never find one. I don't know the exact average voltage of the cut out, but I know how a relay works and what would happen if you were undervoltage.

In a relay if you don't have a strong enough voltage your not going to get enough induction on the relay coil to hold it fully closed. Your going to get what is called relay "chatter" Which will damage your relay. IT will damage the coil and breakdown the contacts at a MUCH larger rate then original. I don't know numbers. But as an electrician and knowing this fact, there is never a time that I will want to run a relay that not running on its intended voltage. Not to mention by having this relay chatter you might see unequal voltages on the device, depending on how bad the chatter is.

The same thing is going to happen in a solenoid, but I don't know much about the voltage cutouts from there. I know with my ballasts they are all electronic cut outs. They are on my DRLs and because its only 3-4 volts it will not try an energize the coil. It is a form of voltage regulation. It does not let electrons pass if its under a certain voltage.
NOW having said that I know that there are forms of voltage regulators, that MIGHT help you in your situation. However they might be very expensive, too much for just doing what you want to do. I don't have much experience in them but I know they might exist as thats what my ballasts seem to have.

You could look for something like I stated above, I know I was thinking the same thing installing my HIDs, but it all worked out because of the voltage regulation inside the ballasts it all worked out for me. The other thing that you can try and do is depending on the year of your ram, if its a 2009, take it in to a dealer and get them to disable the DRLS. Will save you lots of trouble. Or go and buy a bullydog GT and you get a tuner and can disable them yourself. As far as trouble with the cops, I don't think you will have. At least I never had.

That's the main reason I didn't put hids in my highbeams cause the stupid drls and I had enough trouble getting my low beams to work I can just imagine with the high beams. The dealer might refuse to do it due to safety who knows. You can always put some led daytime running lights instead like the new VWs and Kia's.
