Default Select shift 2012 1500

On 2012 does select shift cancel 6th gear? Isn't only difference in select shift and tow/haul the length of shift and progressive braking? Does not BOTH tow/haul and if using select shift cancel high gear? Buddy of mine have a debate over this. He says select shift allows all gears including 6th/high and only thing it cancels is MDS. I say select shift and tow/haul cancel high gear. He says his 2012 is different then my 2009 on that feature.

well since select shift in your 09 gives you access to all 5 gears then why wouldn't it give you access to all 6 in a 2012. one easy way to find out is to go sit in a 2012 and try it and see if the display says 5 gears or 6. That will end the argument.

Select shift only disables MDS and allows all 6 gears. You lose buy him the beer you owe him.

I just re-read your post. I'm not sure about both but I will check it out on my way to work. I would think in select shift I would still have the option for 6th in tow/haul mode. It may depend on which option is selected first. I could see a scenario where tow/haul is enabled then select shift may max out at 5. Select shift set to 6th and then tow/haul enabled may only give me 5. Oh hell, it's in the driveway and still smells good brb I'll check it out right now

*edit*

So I checked it out in the driveway and regardless of when tow/haul is enabled select shift allows me to choose 6th.

Select shift in my 2009 does not allow HIGH GEAR. Nor does it in tow/haul. It does the very same in tow/haul. Only difference in select and tow/haul is the length of time it holds a gear and it has progressive braking. Did they change that in 2012? I'm not taking about enabling tow/haul and select at the same time. I can be in DRIVE and use select shift and it SAY FIFTH. But FIFTH IS CANCELLED. In tow/haul and not using select shift 5th is cancelled. My friend says his 2012 is different and he only looses high gear, shows 6th on his in tow haul. That when his reads 6th in select shift he really is in 6th or HIGH gear how ever you want to call it. His reading 6 is just b/s as its using 2nd and 2nd prime in DRIVE and mine only uses 2nd,2nd prime in tow/haul. Same transmission. Same amount of 'gears' in tow haul I just don't have 2nd prime in drive and his does. Its not but what 100 rpm difference if that.

Default Transmission Range Select on 2010 Versions

On my 2010 with 545RFE Transmission Range Select (TRS) (console shift), if I select Tow/Haul the number "5" is displayed in the instrument cluster and the engine speed increases by about 200 RPM. Starting from a stop, the transmission will shift through all five gears. There will be no MDS.

At least on the 2010, it appears that selecting Tow/Haul prevents the torque converter from locking, switches off MDS, but still allows high gear.

Dusty

Tow haul stops HIGH gear in my 2009. Select shift showing fifth HIGH gear is cancelled. Same as tow/haul. Turn off select shift and then it up shifts to last high gear. Torque converter still locks in any of them. MDS is cancelled in select or tow/haul.

In tow haul you have 2nd and 2nd prime but not 5th gear, but you still have 5 gears since it gives you both 2nd gears. Now when you use select shift it still gives you access to 5 gears. So since the 2012 trucks have the same trans as we do, and the only difference is that they get access to 2nd prime all the time, then if their display says 6 when they use tow haul or select shift then they have access to all 6 gears no matter what. fat1 has already confirmed that on his truck for you.

lol I'm confused. All i know is no matter I do (tow/haul or not) it says 6 on the display in select shift mode. According to the dealer when I bought it I use select shift to disable mds and tow/haul when im towing my boat to hold gears longer

Page 305 of my owners manual. IN ERS mode, first through third gear are underdrive gears, and fourth gear is direct drive. ERS FIFTH GEAR (OVERDRIVE) is the same as normal FOURTH! When in the DRIVE position the first through fourth gear the first tap down(-) will display the ERS designation for the current gear(the transmission will not downshift) For example if you are in DRIVE and are in third (direct) gear, when you tap the shift lever/switch one time in the(-)direction,the display will show 4(ERS 4 is direct gear) Another tap down(-) will shift the transmission down to ERS 3 (the added under drive gear) When in the DRIVE position in 5th gear, the first tap down(-) will downshift the transmission and display 5 (ERS 5 is the same as normal fourth gear) Another tap down(-)will shift the transmission down to ERS 4 (direct gear). So In ERS fifth gear is not the fifth gear in regular drive. It is FOURTH direct. To me it feels like it has cancelled fifth gear. In essence it has hasn't it. Now does the 2012 in ERS do the same thing? Or does is 6th gear the same as in regular drive or it also a drop down to a direct? Tow haul actually does the same thing.
