Default 2011 1500 rear coil upgrade?

Posting for a friend who has a 2011 1500 quad cab 2wd. He carries a lot of tools in the bed for work and the back is beginning to sag a bit. So he's wondering how to add some weight capacity to the rear coils. Here are a couple ideas that we're thinking about and would like your thoughts on:

Is it possible to simply swap in a set of coils (if they use them) from a 2500?

Are there a set of factory coils for the 1500 that are heavier duty then the stock coils?

He doesn't want to do air bags except as a last resort so if he can go factory stock he would be happier. If not then any other ideas would be great!

Thanks much, Jim.

2500 have leafs...

Couple of companies have lift springs, though those are about the same spring rate just longer....

Or he can use a spacer....

Or Airbags, which are probably the best solution.

i have been wondering if the 2" lift progressive springs from say top guns have a stiffer rate or not. maybe worth a call to them.

i have the airbags and they work great for an occasional load (when i pull my trailer or load up the bed heavy for yard work), but i dont know if i would want to rely on them for a constant load.

Thanks everyone for the info and suggestions! I'll pass them along to my friend and see what he wants to do.

Looks like the best idea might be the airbags although we did find a place online with 50% upgraded coils.

Having had a very poor experience with Top Gun Customz I won't even think of recommending that company to him or anyone else.

Thanks a bunch! Jim.

Jim, what problems did you have w/ TGC...if you don't mind me asking? A buddy of mine had an issue w/ them as well but ended up getting it all resolved. I used them recently and had a good experience. Just curious thats all...

I was looking at doing the same thing and looked for bigger coil springs and couldn't find any. So instead of going with airbags, I put on bigger bump stops. This way my truck will only drop a few inches and doesn't show much sagging. Then when I put in my leveling kit, I had to order extensions for my bump stops, and it all seems to work out great now.

It's still an ongoing issue with them and hope it will get resolved sometime soon. Until then I don't think I should comment further other then to say it is trying my patience a bit. Hopefully they'll pull it off and it will end ok. But once it is resolved (fingers crossed) I'll post my comments on them.

I found a company online called SDTruckSprings that lists a set of rear coils for his truck with a 50% rate increase over stock springs. That might be an option for him although another poster didn't seem to think they would really help. What kind of bump stops did you use? I've seen the Timbrens online and that might be an option for him.
