Default Security light and TPMS light stays on.

Hi,

Yesterday out of the blue my security light was on when the truck is running and stays on all the time... What does this mean?

Also, my TPMS light is on too, when I check the tire pressure on the screen every single tire just gives me "--" like it lost communication with the sensors.

What now?

Thanks

Did you put too much pressure in the tires? They have a max/min spec they read at. +/-5% I think?
Cheap HID's(conversion kits) can cause interference. Moving the ballasts around to a different position/location can sometimes help.

When I say conversion kits, I mean anything that replaces stock type halogen bulbs. 9005/9006/H13/H1/H3...etc
Genuine OEM HID lights use bulbs like D1S, D1R, D3S, D3R, D4S, and D4R. The ballasts used for those bulb types generally dont cause any interference as they have higher quality components.

Your sensors that are already programmed will take 1-20min to be re-learned driving above 20mph. This learn cycle restarts everytime if you dont drive long enough for the module to relearn.

Found THIS through a Quick Search

Thanks!

I did some searching before I posted this a found a few issues with HID and the TPMS but seems like most guys only had one wheel freaking out, not all 4, so I thought that was odd.

I need to work on my lights anyways so I`ll get all the info from them when Im in there. Might be a cheapo kit which is causing all these issues.

Its definitely not over or under tire pressure as I havent changed that in a while. I`ll double check with a manual guage just in case though.

So that explains the Tire pressure light a bit more... but what about that red light? The security light. Does that red light always come on when your tire pressure light is on? Or is this maybe on because it lost signal on all 4 tires? Thats the light that concerns me more right now... tire pressure I dont really care about so much as i`m going to change my rims shortly and didn't purchase the sensors (for now anyways) so the light would have been an issue reguardless.

Thanks again dirtydog.

Default It's your TPMS module.

I own a 2010 Ram 1500 and I just had the same exact problem from the same exact cause. The dealership replaced my TPMS module and all is good now. Also, if you suspect your aftermarket HID headlights are causing issues, you will want to change some settings in your system: change your headlight setting to 0 seconds after turning off the truck and change your Illuminated Approach to OFF. You might also want to add some ferrite coils to your HID ballasts. You can get a box of them from Amazon for less than $15.

Could a bad module cause the sensor to go off as well as the sensors for a bunch of other things in the truck?

I'm not sure what you mean by "a bunch of other things." All I can do is recommend you take your truck to a qualified technician for troubleshooting and diagnosis.
