High Speed (220 km/h) will damage axle or transmission??
Hey,
this is my first time in a forum and i need help.
I live in germany and i bought last year a new 2010 RAM 1500. I use the car for business and i drive also on the german highway with 200 km/h. But only short times, because i think that the axle and the transmission is not build for this speed.
Did anybody know something about that?
Please be kind, because my english is not the best...

200 km/h is about 124 mph. I would not know a lot about the long term effects of that speed on the vehicle, but I do know that as long as you know how to drive at those speeds, I don't think it would effect it in the short term.

I would be more concerned w/ the short term right now...if your running the stock Goodyear Wrangler HP's the speed rating is only rated for 112MPH (plus or minus a few MPH)... and if one of those blows out going that speed. kiss yourself or someone else goodbye. It's not worth it unless you get a higher speed rated tire.

w/ a tuner you can bump up the speed and yes I'm sure. I raised my speed limiter then lowered it bc there is absolutely no reason too...stock I think it governs out before 115
I don't believe there should be any real problem with high speed as far as the transmission and axle are concerned. That's a seat of the pants keyboard engineer speaking, but I'm fairly familiar with the bit and pieces inside. Might not want to do it for an 8 hour trip, but 5-10-15 minutes here and there should be fine. If your truck has the EVIC, switch over to the transmission temp and keep an eye on it (do the 1500's have trans temp?) for reference - or better plug an ODBII data logger in and log the trans and engines temps and review them off the autobahn.
As others have said - DO make sure your tires are appropriately rated! (this may reduce your load handling capability - there's often a tradeoff there)
And of course make sure the truck is actually safely comfortable at those speeds and keep a good gap for stopping.

Oh, and safely secure a camera in the truck and GET US SOME VIDEO! ;-)
Like keen said video please! Haha
Keen, the 1500's do have trans temp if you have the evic option.

haha ... even with a 32 gallon tank i dont think it would do 120 mph for 8 hours.
i agree with others that i wouldnt be concerned about transmission or axle so long as trans temperatures and engine temp stay ok, i wouldnt only be worried about tires. i believe that the 112 mph rating comes froma sustained speed at 1 hour, but i wouldnt push it to much without upgrading tires.

I travelled across Montana in July 1996 in my new-then F150. There were no speed limits in Montana that year, so I let'er rip. The Ford hit 100mph with its 210hp 4.6 V8 and I was duly impressed.
I DO remember that corners were less than comfortable at that speed due to the high center of gravity of the truck.
So, handling at 100mph+ would be a concern as well as the tire durability and (probably) horrible mileage.
