Default How much more left do i have left on brake pads

How much do you guys figure i have left on my breaks. Truck has 80 000 kms and is an 09, never changed them before. The rotors seem alright, do you guys wait till your pads are right worn out like 1/8" or what? Do they have squealers on them to let you know your due. I do some towing in the summer but i mostly use my rv breaks to slow me down unless it's an emergency stop, and driving around i try not to use them if possible, usually use the tranny or just coast to a red light. I'm thinking i'm probably good for another summer, just want a second opinion, here's a few pics, this is the rear driver's side which is a little bit more worn than all other ones.

That looks like there's enough to get you through the summer. I'd check them in the fall. Hate to get stuck doing a brake change in the winter. I got almost 50,000 km on mine and haven't looked but probably will when I do the tire rotation. I don't know if they're ceramic, but they haven't squeeled or given me a reason to check.

I have 65k on mine with original pads. Just got it inspected and two were 9/32 and two were 8/32. Can't complain at all with the Ram, stops good, good wear and NO brake dust on front rims at all. My F150 trashes the rims and white letter tires with brake dust bad.

Thanks guys, i also think the ram brakes are pretty good, i thought i'd have to change them quite a while ago but that's pretty good. I"m sure it depends on how you drive (HammerZ71's ex style) some don't last long haha. But i think i'll tough them out some more, i usually take off for like 6 months with my camper in the summer for work and dont always have access to a dodge dealer, so I might just buy pads and have them incase i gotta do a quick driveway job.

BTW kddsRam 8/32 is the same thing as saying 1/4 lol, just had to throw it in there.

They must measure pads to the 32nd. , I just pulled the info off this "vehicle health report" from dealer.

I myself, would be replacing both rotors & pads at that point. Especially if you KNOW you`re going to be towing.
That isnt a whole lotta pad to depend on when towing if you happen to need stopping power without pad fade.
I would also upgrade the pads an rotors to a better quality as well when replacing them.

Just my own personal opinion though, i want to know i can depend on my brakes if needed in a panic situation.

I agree with LU229, especially if you're gone for the majority of the summer! If you do decide to do them sooner than later, check out the link in my signature for pricing and availability. Our Kinetic drilled and slotted variety will run cooler due to improved airflow through the vanes which helps increase rotor life. The slots on the rotors will increase the coefficient of friction which is good for improved initial bite and provides a more predictable response even when extremely hot, and the Powerstop Z16 Evolution ceramic pads in the kit provide a higher coefficient of friction than the stock pads with reduced noise and dust - a win win combo. They are excellent pads that will take repeated hot stops without fading out.

I was at the dealer to have oil change and tire rotation and the tech brought me out to show me that I would soon need brakes (52,164 Miles). I saw that one of the rotors in the front had a groove on the back so even though I had at least another 12-15K before the pads went bad I replaced everything New Rotors Front and Rear, New Ceramic Pads (Factory is Semi Metallic), I also for the hell of it replaced all the slide boots and re-greased all the slides as I have read about seized calipers on a few forums. Just did it all on Monday so no long term results yet but seems to be OK. Could have gone longer but figured it was not worth it since I was able to get a good deal on the parts. Not the highest end but should do the trick I do minimal towing of a light boat. Oh by the way the dealer wanted $157 Per Axle for just pads and $382 Per Axle for Pads and Rotors thought that was a little high!

I second the opinions on changing the pads! I usually hit mid forties mileage on my front pads with every Dodge truck I've owned to date. I don't much, but if that were my truck, I'd certainly be swapping pads before I venture into any towing.

I'd change the pads and rotors out. You probably don't realize how much braking is lost when your pads start grooving into your rotors... Plus, your pads start to wear unevely and that puts uneven pressure against the rotor. Happens even with perfectly healthy calipers.

I'd say go with BrakeMotive Drilled/slotted and ceramic pads. They are only $225shipped for all 4 corners. That's Front and back and includes pads!! Local stores get you for that much on just one set of axles. Had their rotors and pads on 3 of my cars. Great product.
