got home from work and smelled burning oil, crawled under truck and found gear oil sprayed all over back of fuel tank. Damn pinion seal already. I had the transfer case seal replaced at 30k miles as well when I noticed it leaking out the boot while changing the oil. I need to find the fill hole to top off fluid asap though because it looks like a lot of oil sprayed.
Another 4th gen dodge truck owner let down, what a surprise...NOT...! Sure glad mine is gonna be going bye bye very soon. I`ve never had a vehicle with as many issues as BOTH of my 2010 4th gen trucks have had.
Did you get the rear diff recall performed when it came out? Maybe the pinion bearings have a little excess wear due to the lack of diff fluid from the factory, causing the seal to leak.
For the OP - when was the last time you replaced the diff fluid and are you sure it was the right kind? Its really easy to cook the oil out of a diff if it is the wrong type or the level is low.

at 30k. Was done at different dealer, I could only assume but they were using bulk QS lubricants so who knows, at least it was done at a dealer and there is record of it if it is f'ed up. That may explain it since I do not see too many posts anywhere of this happening. Should be covered under powertrain warranty. Coincidentally, I have noticed a bit of noise with highspeed coasting, not sure if all related here but will get the fluid changed again, dropping off tomorrow and got a loaner vehicle to get to work. These guys do not use QS products.
