The oil change reminder light has NEVER come on. No clue whats going on. truck has 12,000miles on it. Of course i have changed the oil (synthetic). Just wondering what could be the issue? Called dodge and since it has the fancy cluster it has the warning msg for sure.

Sounds like someone has a habit of pumping the gas pedal before starting like on carbed vehicle. If you pump the pedal 3 times with the switch on before starting it resets the oil life monitor.

 

x2 with Gene...My 2009 shows a message and upon start up it dings and says oil change due. If you turn the key on and pump three times w/in 10 seconds it can erase it.

 

When did you do the first oil change? With only 12,000 miles, it may be that you are not waiting long enough for the reminder to come on. On my truck (2009 SLT), the first change light came on at 2,500 miles, after that I've changed it every 4,000-5,000 miles and it also has not come on. I don't want to wait till it does.

 

It does not know you changed oil unless its reset by a person. If oil is changed lets say every 3k and the person doing the oil change does the reset it will never come on. If its not reset it comes on regardless if oil was changed the day before.

 

Good catch, I forgot to add that I do reset the monitor when I change the oil. So it seems that the OP has not reset his and there is something odd going on.

 

Is the op changing the oil or a dealer or oil change facility? When my oil is changed the reminder has been reset by the oil change tech whether on or not. In all my vehicles that has been the case.

 

The oil change reminder in my sport always comes on before 3000 miles, more like 2800 every time. I think its ridiculous that the oil change interval is 3000 miles anyway, its not 1970. Modern oil and filters can go much farther. my BMW oil change interval is dynamic based on how you drive and other variables, can easily go 15000 between changes. I get that this is a truck and its supposed to be worked hard but it's still garbage that you have to change it so often.
