Default How much room is under the bed of my 2010 diesel truck.

Last week I bought THIS 95 GALLON TANK WITH THE OPTIONAL PUMP.

I am going to drill some holes to secure the tank but want to be sure I don't drill too far and drill into the 35 gallon factory tank.

I am going to wrap some tape around the drill bit to act as a stop but I want to see if I may need to wind up putting s metal plate to protect from drilling into the top of the factory tank but I would like to know how much margin for error there is.

There are only two tabs to drill into but I am going to add a nylon hold down strap. I welcome any and all suggestions.

Fuel is cheap in SC & VA so i should be able to fill up when I leave an not need fuel till I get back. It isn't just about saving money some stations near NY city are hard to get into with a long bed puling a 28 foot 5th wheel

Sounds like you need a stop collar for your drill bit.

A small piece of tape wrapped around the drill bit should be fine, I need to know if the top of the bottom of the fuel tank is is touching the bed

My truck has clearance between the bed and the tank, but it's a hemi 2500 and might be different from yours. You have to get under there to bolt it down anyways, why not crawl under and take a look first?

I wouldn't risk damaging the fuel tank ---- it ain't worth it. Do it right!

I know eventually I will have to crawl under the truck, but I am stuck in bed with some kind of cold or flu that I can't seem to get rid of. I had it for a week or tow in the beginning of March and thought I got rid of it but it came back again even worst.

I already spent well over $800 on a 95 gallon tank with a 12 volt pump so it is going into the truck by what ever means necessary.

I was already under the truck working on the hitch but didn't check clearance where the tank will sit.

I felt better this morning but I am waiting till tomorrow until I crawl under again, but as long as I was stuck in bed waiting till I felt better I figured I would ask a few questions. I haven't been sick with a cold or flu in over 6 years but this seems to be getting just about everyone I know.

I am towing a 28 foot 5th wheel camper and there is a lot of truck stops with room for large trucks with campers in SC but when I am up north near NY city NJ area most of the stations are a very tight squeeze, and the fact that diesel can run 60 cents to a dollar more per gallon it will be nice to drive up to NY and almost all the way back to SC on one fill up. Plus if my plan to drive to Alaska next year works out it will be nice to have the extra 95 gallons. I have heard that gas stations are a few hundred miles apart in some areas.

I will definitely be careful before I drill any hole but I figured that with all the people on this site that own Dodge trucks there must be someone that has done it already,

PS I figure that all I need is an inch or to of clearance. Once I get under the truck I may discover that the aren't any tanks, wires, hoses or tubing near the area I have to drill. Worst case I can have tabs welded to the bed that I can attach the tank to, but I doubt it will come to that.

By the way I bought THIS USED 2006 USED JAYFLIGHT Pages 4 thru 10 of the link.

The Dodge pulled it so easy it was almost like it wasn't there and I still got a very respectable 13 MPG on the 550 mile trip back.

I read the the standard factory brake controller isn't as good as aftermarket controllers but as far as I am concerned it works pretty darn good.
