Default 5.7 Hemi engine pukes part 4 of 4 - the cam

I finally got the truck back today, not a scratch on the truck after weeks at the dealer so that's good. It seems to be running fine, peppy throttle feels like she wants to GO! Here's the replacement parts list and a pic of the old cam. This lobe was gone and another lobe was beginning to "delaminate" as the tech described it. The tech who worked on it was probalby in his mid to late 30's and seemed to know what he was talking about. I also had them install the remote start option that's going to be sweet this summer.
  • 2 sparkplugs
  • 1 inkate valve, 1 exaust valve plus pushrods
  • 16 valve springs and valve guide seals, this is an updated valve spring design, the old ones were lighter springs with a supporting jacket, the new springs are heavier, no jacket.
  • 1 camshaft
  • 16 lifters (tapets)
  • 30 new hex head bolts
  • Bunch of gaskets

Coolidge I have been following your painful stroll through the corporate BS machine and still in disbelief that they would not just swap out the engine. So did they give you a life time warrantee on the engine? Other note you got your ride back just in time for the high gas prices …..
Thanks for keeping us up dated and the pics are great

Negative, Chrysler refused to give me an extended warranty of any kind. They said well if you ever have a problem with the engine out of warranty we will review your file and maybe do something for you. Yeah...I'll just be over here not holding my breath on that happening.

Coolidge,
you might want to think about gluing a very powerful earth magnet to the oil filter. The magnet will hopefully catch all the left over metal that they didnt get out of the engine. Before you unload/sell/trade the truck, pull the magnet off and keep it for your next vehicle. The magnets i like to use, you can usually find on most any hand held shop lights/trouble lights today in the hardware stores. Last but not least, CHANGE THAT OIL & FILTER VERY SOON..! I`d go maybe 50 to 100 miles, then dump it. Good luck budd, i hope it all works out for ya.

My anger suggests you run the engine like you want to kill it as you still have warenty on the parts and labour, after your warenty is up and the engine craters again, you have nothing off any value.

For all the trouble and bills to chrysler for warenty work, a new engine pulled from the assembly line and shipped directy to your dealer would have saved more more time, effort and money.

Now every conecting rod and valve train componants, springs, valves, guides, push rods have to relearn how to work with a new cam shaft.

Only 2 new spark plugs? thats a insane that chrysler is jewing you down for all new 16 basic cheap copper plugs, and two valves???

Would have cost next to nothing for new heads..

I understand you don't want to out right abuse your truck, but I doubt thiers any life left in this engine due to the miss match of parts.

"Jewing you down"? What, are we back in the 1950's or something? I'm not Jewish, but man that is an offensive comment IMHO.
