Default 1500 exhaust

Hello everyone, I am back after getting rid of my 07 diesel nightmare a couple years ago. I just got me a 2012 1500 outdoorsman. I have one question, the 1500 has a resonator just before the outlet. Has anyone taken it out? Any sound or performance gains with doing this? Thanks

There's not much sound or performance gain by doing that. You'd be much better off leaving that resonator and swapping your huge 3ft long muffler for an aftermarket one. I do want to warn you about doing that though.... You WILL hear the MDS become active with an aftermarket muffler. The exhaust will have a pulsating effect and can be annoying. When i went to a Magnaflow catback(mild, not all that agressive) the pulsating sound annoyed me alot and I ended up purchasing a tuner to turn it off. Your 2012 doesn't hjave a tuner yet to even do such a thing(too new).
So, I'd leave on the resonator to help with that pulse effect.

X2 on the MDS. My Magnaflow drones like crazy when the MDS turns on.

Seriously though, how often is the MDS on? I put a dual out Flo~Pro on my truck with dual pipes out the back with no resonators. Better sound, muscle car tone, no real bark, just rumble, and the MDS can be heard but isn't real annoying. And I found out how infrequently my MDS comes on.

MDS kicks on whenever you are under 7% TP? Or maybe it's just light throttle pressure? Not exactly sure.
If your constantly on/off the gas, meaning you drive erratic, then it will come on less frequent.
MDS is suppose to kick on at speeds over 30mph and as often as possible.

Mine kicked on as soon as 20mph and even wheile going uphill sometimes being light on the gas. This caused the light presure of 8cylinders to get me up the hill, but when it would drop to 4cylinders, my truck would slow down and require a downshift.
I could hear and feel when MDS kicked on for a few months before tuners came out for my model year to disable it. It came on ALOT!
I dont drive erratic.

If you don't notice it that much, the dual muffler may help and if you have your radio on or windows down, it's not as noticeable. I dont drive with the music loud ever, mostly its not even on so it's more noticeable in that situation.

I had an 08 6.7 diesel, and had owned 4 other 5.9 cummins. I had a ton of issue with my 6.7, and traded it off for a hemi. So far not really an issue with the hemi nothing compared to my 6.7. I do love the 5.9 03 - 05 trucks, and will buy one again someday. Sorry to hear you had issues with the 6.7 as well.

Anyways....

Like its been mentioned already, removing the resonator will not add much sound or power. If you are trying to avoid drone and still want an aggressive exhaust then the DB system made by Corsa is your only option. I have it and so do several others around here and I have no interior drone while going down the road.

Thanks for the info, my old 6.7 was such a disaster I almost put dodge in my past. But this new truck with the hemisphere is definitely starting to win me back.

Every single time I drive it and maintain the same speed for more than a minute or two it turns on. Then I have to shift into 5th to get rid of the droning.

I have noticed that shifting into fifth around town has actually helped my mileage instead of letting MDS kick in and bog down the motor.
