Default 2012 Seat Belt/EVIC question

Is the EVIC "disabled" if you do not put on your seat belt? In other words it tells you that you are not buckled in and will not do anything until you do?

I have a 12 Durango R/T that I am driving until my truck shows up and it does this. I would disable the seat belt alert, but it is a loaner from the dealer, do not think that would be cool.

If the Ram does this if you disable the chime will it allow the EVIC to work?

No the EVIC is not Disabled if you press back on the steering wheel controls you can scroll threw the menu,
The only thing the buckle dance does is turn off the chime the seat belt light will still be on and the Evic message is still there.

As stated, even if you disable the chime the EVIC will still warn you and you have to hit your back button everytime you go under 5MPH and go back over 5MPH.

I would also like to know how to disable the seatbelt dinger in my 2012 RAM... I do a LOT of tiny driving when I'm working with my boat... and the damn thing is SOOOO ANNOYING when it's dinging when I'm trying to launch my boat! GOD, it's just awful!

*DING DING DING DING! Put your seatbelt on while going 4MPH in reverse because it's not safe*... GAH!

If anything, taking the seatbelt off is MORE SAFE so I don't hit something because I' limited looking behind my truck with it on!!!!

FWIW, I found this searching on Google: http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=45953 - "Buckle belt, turn key to on position without starting, wait untill seat belt light goes off on dash, then unbuckle and rebuckle 3 times ending in the buckled postion within 60 seconds. Then start your truck and you should hear a chime sound confirming it was done. You will still see the seatbelt light on the dash but the chime will be gone"

Sequence is described in the owner's manual. Says all doors need to be closed first and confirmation single chime wil happen when the key goes back to the LOCK position.

Section called "Enhanced Seat Belt Use Reminder System". Starts on page 51 for my 2011 Owner's Manual.

Edit:

I just looked at a 2012 owner's manual: It says "BeltAlert can be enabled or disabled by your authorized dealer. Chrysler Group LLC does not recommend deactivating BeltAlert."

That's all - so perhaps the 2012 can't be disabled on your own.

My 2011 owner's manual says this:

"BeltAlert can be enabled or disabled by your authorized dealer or by performing the following procedure:
NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON/RUN or START position. Chrysler Group LLC does not recommend deactivating the BeltAlert.

1. With all doors closed and the ignition switch in any position except ON/RUN or START, buckle the driver’s seat belt.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position and wait for the Seat Belt Reminder Light to turn off.
3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver’s seat belt at least three times within 60 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.
NOTE: Watch for the Seat Belt Reminder Light to turn on while the seat belt retracts and turn off while rebuckling the seat belt.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.
BeltAlert can be reactivated by repeating this procedure.
NOTE: Although BeltAlert has been deactivated, the Seat Belt Reminder Light will continue to illuminate while the driver’s seat belt remains unbuckled or unretracted."

I will try this! Thanks!

If it doesn't work I'll call the dealer and ask if they can do it for me!
