Paint streaking under mirrors
The paint is streaking under the exterior mirrors after this winter. It seems like the road salt has caused corrosion in the pop metal mirror mount and the corrosion products are causing the paint to streak. Is this a big deal or just wax the truck and get on with it?
Happened everytime I washed my 09 and even my new 12. It is drit behind the mirror mount plastic, which obviously drains at its lowest point onto the door. It will get worse as the truck gets older due to more dirt behind the mirror.
When you wash just keep one of the damp towels you use to dry, go back out 30-45 minutes later and wipe it off. Same thing happens to me with the bed rail caps. Water runs forward to the very front corner of the rail (back of bed) and down the side of the bed. Again, just wipe with damp cloth shortly after washing.
The thrid gens did this as well.

I had paint streak after using Meguirs Trim retorer for my mirrors, door handles and black platic trim. It would drip when it got wet and the sun would almost bake it into the clearcoat. It would take a few days to run down the paint and another few days before it was hard coming off. I left it for 2 weeks and barely got it off. I just tried the stuff again and had to wipe everyday it rained for 3 days straight. I'll never use the stuff again. Becareful using oil products on your plastic trim parts!!!
They do make a waterspot remover. it's merely rubbing compound.

Inferior fit & finish traps all kinds of dirt and road grime, nothing will stop it unless you reseal the mirrors and door handles to keep the dirt out from getting trapped within. I resealed all of mine, problem solved. I use a good wax as well, this helps water drain away very quickly so as not to leave as many dirt tracks all over the paint as it dries after washing it. (i use turtle wax "ICE" silicone liquid wax) Also, a good glaze will do wonders. As for "rubbing compound", not a very wise idea... some are VERY abrasive. A good cleaner wax will remove those dirt spots, but dont rub into it to hard, it CAN remove some of the clearcoat surface over time. The least abrasive cleaner wax i`ve used in the past is "MOTHERS". Meguire`s products are NOT what they`re hyped up to be. Just my opinion.
