Default The definitive cab / clearance lights for 4th gen ram pics and info

OK, so I spent almost a year trying to get good info and finally got around to the install. I found no pics, no info anywhere. Everyone said "connect it to the a-pillar- theres no connection there in the 4th gen... so here ya go. I also (per the recommendation of a lot of people on here) put in 10 LED bulbs instead of the OEM bulbs.

Pics with the lights on and off:

Some "how to" info:

Light Bulbs:

I heard a lot of complaints about the factory bulbs burning out, so I bought 10 LED bulbs that were the same size as a standard bulb instead. Any larger LED bulb and it won't fit. The brightness is also about equivalent to a factory light (as you can see). I think they look great and they should last a few years!

Did I pull the headliner? NO!

First I drilled the holes, then I fed the wires through with help of some extra wire by removing the overhead console (To remove the overhead console, pull the trim in front of the map lights, it will pop down. Disconnect the wires above it, and then theres another "pop" piece in the middle (4 total, 2 front 2 middle), then the rear slides out from under the headliner). I then fed the wires through and it took only about 30 minutes. I also fed the green wire down the left a-pillar, and out the little nipple the guide says to.

Where did I connect the power lead?

Follow the mopar directions (here if you didn't buy the mopar set: http://moparestore.trademotion.com/m...s/K6860443.pdf). Supposedly if you have an 09 or maybe a '10 the wire listed is there... however on the '11s the wire listed is NOT the correct wire (I found this the hard way). However, I did identify the same wire listed, but instead of tapping at the fuse block, I tapped at the harness closer to the headlight. Its the green/white wire shown here. This is the left amber light but NOT the turn signal feed! Its right in front of the fuse box.

Good write up. I like the newer style Mopar lights. When I did mine like six years ago the Mopar ones were fugly as hell, so I went Recon.

Shame they did away with the wiring in the pillar. I did do a search and found on another forum a guy with a 4th Gen 2500 who did have the connection in his pillar. Wonder if they just did away with it on 1500s???

That looks nice! Where did you order the LED's from and how did you avoid drilling all the hole without removing the headliner? I'd be deathly afraid to do that with it still on, lol.

Sounds crazy- you'd think they'd share the same wiring harnesses and the such but thats actually what it looks like. They were an option on the 2500s and 3500s, but not the 1500s, so it looks like they are running different wiring harnesses. I guess this isn't all that surprising since the 4th gen 1500s are rediculously different from the 2500s overall (compared to prior years where the 2500s often seemed more like "reinforced 1500s".

I just bought them on Ebay. 10 for $6, but I'm sure you can buy "better ones" but they work for me. They are just like other wedge LEDs I've bought for map lights and lp lights. I did a lot of research and found the 5 SMD clusters would be a hair under the light output of a stock bulb and the 10 SMD clusters were more, but they don't look over the top. 5 is probably suitable.

here are the 5s: http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-T10-50...#ht_2572wt_905

I'm having trouble finding 10 amber ones now, but a little searching should find 'em. here are what the 10s that fit look like. ANY LARGER WON'T FIT: http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-pcs-T10-1...c44696&vxp=mtr

Lastly there are 20s that look like the same size which are probably great for LP lights but I think are going to be too bright for cab lights.

Theres like a 3-4" clearance between the headliner and the roof all the way across the front (if you llook at the headliner you'll note it drops down along the front, yet the roof doesn't drop down...) thats right along the line of where the lights go. Because of that clearance I felt safe drilling the holes with the headliner in place. I used a hole saw for the wiring hole and a smaller drill bit for the screw holes (the size it says in that guide). Used a magnet to pull out the hole pieces so they wouldnt rattle, and then fished the wires through from the other side. I could have dropped the headliner, but I was more worried about damaging it and couldnt even figure out how to drop it and still get in thereto run the wires. I dropped it on my 2nd gen standard cab, but on the quad cab its not like you can pull it out the doorway (or at least not easily). Finally decided it would be easier not to! haha.

I dunno how a throttle body spacer can make any difference (either positive or negative) on a modern fuel system that utilizes a fuel rail.

Was a time when the fuel was mixed directly at the throttle body and these things gave modest benefits, but them days is gone. Went the way of my six pack abs and hairline. We won't see any of the three ever again...
