Oil change interval?!?!?
This is my first new truck in about 7 years and it has been about 14 years since I have dealt with a gasser. I also understand that oils and manufacturers have surely come a long way with newer technologies. With all that being said, I find it hard to comprehend letting the oil accumulate 8000 miles before a change.
My dealer said 3000 at the purchase but they are also in the service business and would be a bit biased.
Is the high mileage intervals the result of synthetic oils?

I just change mine when the truck tells me too...I check it periodically to make sure the levels are good. But I let the truck tell me when new stuff is needed.
I'm still not sure how it senses it, maybe someone else on here could chime in. But I have around 23000kms on it, and I have only done the oil twice. I put in castrol synthetic both times. I know it definitely does not sense how many kms you have driven, otherwise I would have done it more.
It must have something to do with viscosity, engine hours, and efficiency. HOWEVER just to let you know, if you plan on doing it yourself it takes just a bit more then 5.7 liters of oil. I get mine done at the shop, but I have to buy an extra liter to fill to the appropriate level. Which I don't mind cause it leaves me with some extra in case I need to put new stuff in.

exactly, it's written proof you've done everything needed to retain your warranty. mine (2009) says 6K but yours could be different.
What is this catch can I have seen mentioned? Is it to catch the oil vapors and let them condense?

Exactly. It's placed in-line, attached to the crankcase breather hose between the exit port and the throttle body. I have one, and the stuff I pour out of it is pure nasty. I'm glad it's not coating the inside of my intake manifold and gumming everything up. Seems like it fills up faster when I tow, which makes sense I guess.

Would this be the reason so many of the 3rd gen gassers were having issues with sludge buildup resulting in engine failure?
Any good recommendations for a good catchcan? Seems like a worthwhile investment.

This is the one I got, and it's a quality piece. I like it. Installation is pretty easy, and once you have it bolted on, all you do is unscrew the bottom and empty it regularly. Works great.
