Dealer says transmission fluid bad at 35K?
If you can do it yourself fine. but many can't and won't. You can shop around but its not always a better deal. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of cars and trucks badly maintain. I've had 20 cars/trucks a day getting hundreds of dollars of maintance and repair DAILY. I've also had customers shop around and then tell me they spent days getting maintace done with questionable parts and saved $30 bucks over prices at the dealer that could have had vehicle in and out same day. Lots of ill kept hard used vehicles out there needing legit work. Average age of trucks/cars on the road today is 11 years. I've worked shops with 35 techs that stayed busy ALL day every day in a decent economy. Point being some do need maintance and some come in and spends hundreds or more to get it done. Most folks on these forumns are more savvy and do it hemselves. But many do not and don't want to.
Used to do all my oil changes on all of ours, myself. Realized it was more cost effective and better use of my time to get it done. Wife took her 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee to Chrysler dealer close to her job for oil change @ about 15-20k miles and they tried to convince her she needed a full brake flush. She declined and told me about it and I went thru the roof. It amazes me that some dealerships are in the business of trying to rip off the public. If I would have brought it in, do you think I would have got the same "gotta get this done"?
I say most out there are reputable but there is alotta proof of the blatant crooks.

UPDATE: I have been going back and forth with Chrysler on this for the last few weeks. Today I get a call from my dealer saying they've been authorized to do a transmission fluid change free of charge. Indeed, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Surprised and glad to hear that you'll get the service free of charge.
But did they state why you need one and what it would indicate? Or are they just trying to get the dust to settle? just wondering... but congrats.

The last time I talked to Chrysler I felt like I had gotten nowhere, but within a couple hours the dealer called and the service writer basically said they were doing this to make me happy. I honestly don't think the truck needs a transmission fluid change, but Chrysler has it on record that the dealer recommended one so I'm going to let them do it to avoid any warranty hassles.
