Air Conditioning not working 2010 ram
New to posting here but have been learning a lot for a couple weeks...but now I'm stumped. 2010 Ram 1500 SLT. The HVAC control head would not stay turned on and had the knocking sound behind the radio. Was advised there was a recall so took it to the dealership. Initially he said it hadn't been done but when I got the call he said he'd been wrong and it had been done and the HVAC control head needed to be replaced. $480. I replaced the control head and the bad actuator that was making the banging noise myself and was working fine for about a week but then it started blowing hot air with AC selected. Thinking the control head update might not have been done on the brand new one I bought I put the old one back on and it worked great! Until the next time I started the truck...full hot again. Pulled the battery cable off for twenty seconds, full cold again! Until the second time I started it, then full hot. No airflow issues, just full hot which I can reset by disconnecting the battery. Can't get the same results by pulling HVAC fuses, gotta pull the battery cables. Any ideas?
This summer, there have been a few episodes of the A/C blowing juuuust slightly warmer than usual. And by "warmer", I mean, it's still cool/cold, but not as much as max. It would do that for a few seconds and then go back to blowing full cold. This wasn't every day, or even every time I drove. Just, random.
This past Sunday, 7/17/2016 A/C worked fine. Then Monday morning 7/18, it did not work. Full hot. Compressor is not engaging. So, low/no freon? Blown fuse? New compressor?(please no).

Unfortunately you're out of warranty, but if you're interested in having your dealership look in to this issue, please feel free to reach out and I am happy to help make the appointment for you.

my 2009 did the same thing last year. Since it was summertime, there were lots of shops advertising specials for AC service. Took it in to a local shop that for around than $70, evacuated the system and then filled the refrigerant and also put in dye. Took it back a couple of weeks later for and leak inspection and they used a special light to find a leak in the condenser. The shop wanted around $350 for one plus labor. I had done some research before hand and told the guy that was a ridiculous price for one and showed him the prices I found. Anyway, I bought one for around $150 and had them install it. Been blowing cold since then.

Update: took it to a shop yesterday and they filled it for $60... Blew cool on my three minute drive from there to home, but blew hot again today. They tried to tell me that my evaporator core was damaged and leaking… I am not understanding how one can come to that conclusion when you can't even see the evaporator on a ram because it's behind the dash. It blew fine on Sunday. I had my oil changed and an inspection, and then it didn't work on Monday. I have a feeling something happened when I got my oil changed for it just all of a sudden not work the next day. And then the shop filled yesterday, and then for it to not work today.
you have a leak somewhere. If the shop used dye, then with a special light they can see the leak source. Even splatters under the dash could point to the condenser.
I have seen on other posts where someone was doing some work on top of the engine and the leaned on the AC lines and created a leak.
