AC Vents
Between Annie at Chrysler Customer Care and the Mike at the local Dealership we have got this thing repaired and all is well for now.
This is probably going to be an on going problem with the AC system on these trucks.
This is the first problem I have encountered in 3 1/2 years with my truck though, 39k miles. The AC system would hunt and search and finally end up blowing out on the floor. Have been through the K17 recall 2 years ago, I called Chrysler on it and they said dealer would most likely charge for diagnosis and a prorated charge thereafter.
As it turns out the plastic gears in the motor that drives the door were stripped. Mine was the lower drive motor, only took me about 2 hours to fix on my own. Not a permanent fix but one that should work for awhile. I just rotated one of the gears in the motor 180 degrees out from the other. The last gear does not do full rotations, only rotates about 120 degrees full. The other gear is smaller and the teeth closer together so should work fine till I can get a replacement motor, special order from Chrysler. That should tell you that they run through this drive motor a lot.
It is not hard to get to the motor just requires removing most of the center dash stack and then everything is right there. Two screws for the motor and it pulls out then plugs right back in.
