Default Stock Dual Exhaust

Do the new sports have different mufflers than all of the other Rams 1500 with the Hemis and dual exhaust?

I remember reading that the Sports had different exhaust. Is there any truth to this?

Default Dual???

In my opinion, this "Dual" exhaust they tell about on the new Rams are not really "Dual" exhaust. My 2012 Ram Longhorn said on window sticker "Dual Exhaust" when actually it really only is Dual tail pipes out of ONE muffler. When I think of Dual exhaust I thing two pipes from engine, either from 2 manifolds or preferably headers leading back to TWO mufflers, TWO cv and TWO tailpipes. This type of system allows better breathing of the engine. I feel when all of the exhaust goes thru only ONE muffler it is still restricted. JMO

This is correct.. The Sport has a more aggressive sound than say a Big Horn or Laramie..

I still have the 09 and 10 brochure and the sport came with 'aggressive note' muffler. The option on the SLT with big horn trim and laramie was 'refined power' note.

It is not factory true dual no, but IMO I think its one of the best factory truck exhausts out there. The sound is very good compared to other makes.

One thing that have heard tho is that you don't gain much by doing a TRUE dual exhaust. This is header back with 2 separate runs. However some claim to see gains from adding a Y pipe in and 2 high flow mufflers, vs the factory which is basically a Y-pipe and a muffler in one. But again doing a true dual does not gain you much, unless you have a high modded engine...
From what I have heard anyways...

If you have the factory 'dual' option already, then a Mufflex/Magnaflow swap and a Magnaflow 'Y' pipe is as close to true duals as you can get, and cheapest. That factory 'Y' pipe is really crimped, about 1/2 the diameter of the new 'Y' pipe and mandrel bent stainless 2.5" pipe pieces you need to install the 'Y'.

So I am guessing the only difference on the sports is a different muffler? If so, I wonder where I could find a sport muffler and if it would fit right in place of my current muffler.

I know these trucks are not true dual exhaust I just put that in the title to seperate from the baseline models that come with the single tailpipe.

I have one, only a few thousand miles on it, stored in the shed so out of the weather. Send a PM if you want it.
