I know this is an old post, however I have a 2011 Ram Laramie 1500 QC, and Im having the same issue, ABS, TRAC Control, and 4WD light is on out of no where, and twice out of about 2 hrs of running around town to pick up a few things, when I hit the brakes it acted like i was on ice, the ABS kicked in and slowed down VERY slowly, the lights are on but brakes work fine, any help??? Thanks In Advance

My problem exactly. I am new to Dodge (just bought a 2012 Ram 1500). I have had this happen to me a couple of times now. I have done some reading and it appears to be a rather common problem. I was wondering if it would be worth taking to the dealer and get a pinpoint diagnose or should I start with the most obvious parts? I am thinking wheel speed sensors??
Also, I have no idea what dealer rates are these days since I haven't brought any of my cars to a dealer EVER. I usually fix most everything myself. However, I do not know what sort of code reader/ scan tool I would need for this truck to be able to "pinpoint" diagnose the issue. Is there a tool anyone would recommend for trouble shooting (scan/read). I would hate to aimlessly throw parts at the truck. Would it be fair to assume that either connectors, sensors or hubs are the issue?
Thank you very much for your help.

Alrighty.. to whom it may concern

I found the cause of all evil. The other day I noticed gear oil on the inside of my rear driver side tire. A leaking seal let the gear oil run all over the inside of the parking brake components as well as the wheel speed sensor. All that was caused by a really badly damaged wheel bearing. The bearing also destroyed the axle shaft and I had about 1/8 to 3/16 play on the outside bearing. That is plenty enough to throw off the sensor readings which in turn throws the lights in the dash.
Just wanted to follow through and not let this stand unanswered.

Regards I have a Ram 1500, 2012 and gave me the same problem and the solution was to change the rear differential ABS sensors. After switching them, the light was on until the vehicle accelerated to about 35 mph and the car was automatically programmed and solved. Now everything works properly. I bought the sensors in Autozone for a price of $ 19.00.

Default ABS wire melting beside rear diff on right side.

I have a 2012 ram 2500. I noticed my ABS, traction and service 4x4 lights were on. So I looked over my truck to find the problem. I found just right of the rear diff was exposed wires with melted plastic leading to the sensor. I cleaned up the wire and cut back to rewire a piece in. Made the connection and all the lights but service 4x4 went out. I am assuming the service 4x4 will need cleared by a code remover. All was good until I drove it next, I checked the same spot and saw the wires were melted yet again. Looking for help or advice to fix the problem. Has anyone had this happen to them?

I believe the brake line or the diff is getting too hot and melting the tiny wire.

Or is the sensor drawing too much current, (shorted) and melting the wire?

could be but are all the ABS wires connected? Would they not all draw too much power? If that is the issue how can I test to see what it is drawing and what is the normal pulling power for the ABS wire?

I think the ABS system reads the three individual sensors.... they only get like 5 volts though...... and if the sensor was shorted, you would think the ABS lite would stay on....

No clue how the wires are routed though..... I would like to think that the diff, and brake lines, wouldn't get hot enough to melt plastic though......

Hello,

I know this post is not current and there is some great information in here, looks like worst case is wheel bearing went bad without being taken care of which caused further issues with axle and transfer case. I just picked up a 2012 Ram 1500 last week and these lights came on the day i drove off the lot but never when i test drove it or anything. The lights are super inconsistent but at highway speeds ill feel a slight hesitation in the rear wheels and the light will pop on from what I've noticed, its slight almost like a super small pot hole but it does not seem to effect drive ability. I am assuming there isn't a major major concern here as it seems to be all pretty simple stuff and the truck is warranted from the dealer for 30 days and I bought the extend warranty for peace of mind. I've talked to the dealer and they are cool about it and seem to know what im talking about as they deal in dodges, but i dont want to be naive, is there anything else I should be looking at other then whats already posted? Any help or tips/advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm no stranger to turning wrenches so id rather avoid having to wait for dealer to fix if i can replace a $20 sensor and be on the way but that very very slight inconsistent highway speed hesitation feeling makes me think im better off going to dealer at least for diagnosis and to report I was there in case this turns out to be a crap show.

Sensors are part of the hub/bearing units, so, they are a tad more than 20 bucks. You have a warranty that you paid for. Use it.
