another rear diff issue
The pinion nut has issue been officially recalled:
DETROIT—Chrysler is recalling thousands of Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota trucks from the 2009 and 2010 model years because of a problem with a rear axle pinion nut that could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall affects 44,300 trucks.
MODELS AFFECTED:
Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota trucks manufactured from July 1 to Nov. 30, 2009.
THE PROBLEM:
The federal agency said that a lack of adhesive may cause the rear axle pinion nut to loosen. If that occurs, the axle could lock up and the driver could lose control of the vehicle. Government and company officials said there have been 15 reports of rear axle failure, including four that resulted in loss of vehicle control. In one instance, a driver's truck crashed into a concrete barrier. There have been three minor injuries.
THE FIX: Chrysler Group LLC will notify owners of the recall beginning next month. Dealers will install a retainer to secure the pinion nut free of charge

Thank you, I posted a thread on this when I first read about it on msn autos a while ago. My build date is 10/9 so I am relieved that it is finally being addressed, some poor people are lucky to be alive
SO, from what i`m reading, ram and dakota are the only ones covered UP TO November 30th 2009...???
So what the hell are the rest of the ram truck owners suppose to do with OUR differentials failing in 2010 AND 2011 trucks.

If you go to the NHTSA site and search, they say that there have only been 15 REPORTED pinion nut failures and EVERY ONE was manufactured between July and November of 2009.
In reading through this forum's 4th Gen Section I see at least that many if not more similar failures being claimed.
I'd say if y'all want to be included in the recall, y'all need to REPORT your issues to the NHTSA...

Just curious (other then NHTSA incident notifications) as to why those particular dates are being recalled. If the manufacturing build process is identical, with the same manufacturer, I have a hard time believing the restriction of recall dates. I suppose time will tell.
I'm in the same boat too LU229, mines a March 2009 build and not included with the recall, it appears.

My wife w-a-s-s-s-s going to buy a brand new chrysler product just recently, we both decided NOT to support chrysler anymore due to the reason that they wont fix your chrysler vehicle for you when you have warranty problems. So she went out and bought another brand, had drivin it just over a year, not one single drivability issue. The dealer called her a few times over the past year just to see how things were going. (wow, a dealer that actually cares...!!!) Its had one recall recently since she bought it, they had her bring it right in immediately, fixed it right the first time. They even supplied her with a loaner car, and she didnt even have the free loaner car option on her warranty policy... they just gave it to her without any hassle. They even offered to come pick the vehicle up, drop off the loaner so as not to inconvenience her. The day after she got the car back, the dealership called her several different times thru the next couple weeks to make sure the vehicle is/was still running well and if she had any other issues or questions, to call them immediately or just stop in to the dealership and they would be glad to help her anytime. Thats the kind of treatment EVERYBODY deserve`s when they buy a new vehicle...!
I wont tell you what brand she bought because i dont want people to start bashing and go to war with me about it in here. What i WILL tell you is, it wont be long, my dodge product will be going down the highway without me very soon. Not sorry to say, but i`m jumpin ship. I want to own a vehicle i can count on, dealerships and manufactuers that stand behind the products they sell, a vehicle that dosent require its owner to have to deal with "buy-backs" & "law suits" just to own it.
Sorry for the rant, i`m just fed up with chryslers lame and horrible service
I suspect they are only going to take care of those 2009 loose pinion nuts and not do anything for people like us that have LOUD HORRIBLE gear whine. I`m sure chrysler used the same analogy on the NHTSA that the gear whine is "as per design" and likely will not have to follow thru with fixing our trucks. All i can say is, if they dont fix the loud rear differential whine in MY truck, they`ll loose me as a customer forever. I`m pretty sure they`ll loose me anyway at this point because they dont/wont, stand behind they`re products.

I bought my truck frim a small town dealership who lost the license with Chrysler back in August of 2009. I've bought 6 vehicles from them, hands down one of the BEST dealerships around from sales to service/warranty issues.
My wife and I own two Dodges, one Ford, and recently a new GM. The Ford dealership is absolutely horrible, but the GM service is exactly the same experience you've had with your wifes new vehicle, top notch, follow up calls. The Chrysler dealerships in town are behind par following up on service situations (based on two separate warranty services completed) but that's what happens when the competition is eliminated from within. I know when Quaden Dodge lost their dealership license here, Chrysler received hundreds of letters/emails including myself expressing our disappointment and lack of judgement behind this decision.
