I've got a build date of 10/08, might be prudent for folks like me to pay outa pocket to have the pinion nut retainer installed (when it's available) and then see if the recall spreads so that I can get my money back. I'd prefer to prevent damage and more importantly - risk of injury/death.
..I just went out and got under the truck to look at the size of the spare and I do have oil coating the gas tank right next to the diff.....
I have a 12/08 build and had pinion seal go at about same mileage. Same deal, gear oil sprayed all over gas tank and surrounding area. Then a few months later, pinion bearings and carrier bearings needed to be replaced. So now I've had the pinion nut re-torqued 2x in past year...
I'm still waiting for the latest update on this recall to see how far back Dodge intends to go .
This pinion snap has nothing to do with the recall. His nut was still on. The damage looks like a metal defect in the pinion, unless he was doing 6000 rpm neutral drops
I log into dodgeforum every once in a while and I notice these rear end postings are becoming more frequent. I am starting to find comfort that others are sharing in my grief. LOL I had my pinion bolt come loose and lock up my entire rear end about 8 months ago. My truck had this happen at 33k miles . Im now at 41k with no problems but am still worried for the future. Love my truck but I think I am done with chrysler too for my next vehicle.
