Tusakha, read me previous post. Like it says I bought mine from the dealer at time of truck purchase without pricing them. Kinda glad now I didn't because I wouldn't of bought them. I say this because I never dreamed ANYONE would sell running boards attached to the rocker panels. Mine are attached to the frame and are adjustable. Ask your dealer.

The larger flange made a sturdy install and the steps are back on using the same bolts as before.

Neat web page. Hope this works out for you. I'd watch them though, they're still attached to the rocker panel right? May be the solution for you.

Tunaman it's my understanding that the ones the dealers sell (the factory ones) use the rivnuts. Maybe they sold you something aftermarket?

I got some stainless ones (raptor 4") that use brackets you slip into a slot in the rocker panel just below (or above? can't remember) the rivnut slot, and it's bolted in both the normal rivnut hole and the other hole, so in two places, probably making it less likely to pull out. Still seems cheesy to me. They were 300 bucks delivered.

They've been remounted now for about 6 months so far and haven't loosened a bit. The flange that is created on the inside of the rocker panel is about 3/4 of an inch long (three segments) and spread out the force exerted on the steps over a much wider area then the originals. So they will be much harder to pull out.

I'm in agreement that this isn't the best way to mount tubular steps. My 1997 Ram had steps mounted by the body mounting bolts through the frame and seemed like a much better way of mounting them. However, since my steps are pretty much still looking new, I decided not to go through the expense of replacing them. If I ever feel the need to replace them, I will look for a step that is mounted better.

I was only offering a solution to those who would like to just remount their steps like I did.

BTW, my steps are the factory steps installed by the dealer prior to my purchase.

They very well may be aftermarket, not sure but I didn't think so. They're not tubulor, well they are but not round. I was under the impression they were Dodge. they do attach to the frame and like i said, adjustable as far as how far out they are. i doubt I'd spend $500 again but the do seem very good quality.

Your search terminology is incorrect. Usually frame mounted ones are call Rock Sliders. And they are stout enough to use a high lift jack and raise the truck off of the ground with them.

Default Ram 3500 Under Carriage Problems

My 2011, 50 K mile one ton Ram "Tough" truck is falling apart. The factory installed running board mounting brackets, (Dodge tubes actually), ripped the thin cheesy soft metal under carriage of the truck out. I am guessing now that I have to go weld some re-enforcement steel underneath to re-mount to. Scary part is they are only as strong as what you have to weld to. We will see, unless some ones got a better idea.
Also, my spare tire cable broke! never have dropped the spare, but when it dropped on its own I was driving 20mph on ranch road and tire broke loose, ruined the back bumper bouncing the back end into the air and the tire took off into the adjacent pasture. Better here than in town or on the free way. Granted my truck see's rougher roads than most, but nothing that later better built vehicles have not handled without these problems. So keep building them cheaper dudes and keep charging us more so you can pay you Union dues. (Hey, good news, I love the cummings engine).

I had the 4" stainless steel oval in stalled from Earl Owens , Big Country
191,000 miles on them and are great. My 300 lbs stand on them and no flex , mounted to the frame

Did they do things differently on the early '09 builds. Mine was from 9-08. I have had mine on for 5 years with the exception that the dealer had to put on a new set as all the chrome was peeling off. These are starting to do the same. (Mopar bars) I mean I jump in and out of my truck 20 times a day using the step, and never so much as a wiggle.

Greetings, I put the Rapture Nerf Bars on my Daytona 3" oval. They bolted up to the frame. All holes were already there. So far all is working well. No movement. Will hold 300lbs. I got them from Auto Customs/Donald Hardy. Good Luck....
