Thumbs down AVOID RetroSolution HID's

Hello all,

I have not been around much sense I bought my new Cummin's and I know a lot of you are still here. I have always owned car's and installed HID's usually running DDM to be cost effective but due to the amount of happy RetroSolution customers I jumped on board. Let me tell you HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I will NEVER purchase from them again.

The story:

I purchased two completed headlight and fog set-ups for two identical 2012 RAM 2500 LARAMIE trucks, have had nothing but problems with the ballasts on headlights only (fogs seem to run great all the time in both trucks). I went with 55w ballast 6k on both trucks.

At first all ran great on one of the trucks and we had crazy flickering and one bulb never come on, on one of the rigs. After that we called RS they made us trouble shoot for a day and yes, these were installed properly no need to go into to much detail on that. Regardless, they end up shipping out a new ballast, install. SAME DAMN PROBLEMS.

They WILL NOT replace all-though they claim they have a lifetime warranty, they're full of ****. They try to bill you for it in advance then they will refund if they find at there fault. We installed both setups in middle of summer in So. Oregon, and for those who do not know we receive very little if ANY precipitation in in our summer months.

RS kept blaming condensation getting in the connections and causing them to go bad, I call BULL. No visible signs of rust or condensation were present and they were contestant on the claim that it was the issue.

Then the next truck has headlight outage issues, they make me do the same trouble shooting and were rather rude on the phone and keep saying it is not there fault, blah blah and all I want are my headlights working so I can drive at night!

Then, I discover it is the wiring harness and then they try to bill me $18 for a new one, you may be thinking its just $18 but its the principle of the product when you spend over $650 on HID's you want a good product.

I am willing to screenshot my emails I received and post them on here for evidence for all of the non-believers but Ill just end my rant by saying I WILL NEVER PURCHASE FROM RS AGAIN AND I HAVE FILLED A CLAIM WITH VISA AND BBB AGAINST THIS COMPANY.

I will say when they work IF THEY WORK they're great, for what its worth. I will be ripping them out and tossing them, very very disappointing.

quick question
did you use Capacitors inline with the ballasts to the OEM harness ?
If you did ignore this post..
If you didnt thats your flickering problem right there
Which explains why your fog lights work fine because they dont need Capacitors inline..

I will say maybe it's who you dealt with or how you dealt with them?...my HID's are from RS and I had one issue with them when I lived in NJ and I called them and they helped me trouble shoot it. They mailed me a new ballast in advance (no questions asked, for free) then they said send them the old ballast back in the old box and just pay for shipping back to them(which I'm fine with). Put the new ballast in and it was fixed right on the spot and have not had an issue since. For myself I have invested close to 1,000$ into my headlights alone with the HID's and a retrofit from JJ. Not one issue from either source. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. The thing I like about RS, I don't get any stupid TPMS lights int the truck. That's just my .02 from my experience and I would purchase from again. Good luck. I'll try and find my emails and see if I can find the Gent I spoke with. But that might take awhile swifting through e-mails I'll see if I can find anything for yah...

I've purchased three sets of HIDs and ballasts from DDM for three different off road vehicles. Never had a problem with any of them aside from an occasional loose fitting (off road use).
never had to utilize the lifetime warranty but would be very interested to find out how that worked.

I only run OEM ballasts and bulbs on my truck so that's a non-issue.

I know a lot of guys who run them and still use them. Sorry you had a bad experience but overall I think they are a good company. Me personally, Ive never bought from them but I have dealt with other companies.

Over the years I have learned to keep back up parts in case something goes down. Lets face it, these parts are not readily avail in an auto parts store and IF they are, you certainly will not want to pay their price

I have had condensation issues myself. Ive had grounds come loose and give false issues. I very recently had a BRAND NEW pair of D2S bulbs I put in my sports bike that ONE bulb worked for ONE night. The next night it was dead.

Things happen and these electronics are just that, electronics that can and will fail.
