Researching before I buy
I just got a promotion at work and I am toying with the idea of getting a new truck. Sadly, the truck I wan't isn't readily available used. I would like a 2500 4x4 crew cab hemi with things like 4.10 gears etc. Anyway, what is the deal with ordering a truck? I obviously would never pay msrp, but what would I be excepting to pay on a truck that has a $40k msrp? I keep hearing about people getting upwards of $15k off but those were all truck/cars that were in inventory.
The reason I wan't a 2500 is I tow a boat and occasionally a 25ft toy hauler. I drive in-town a lot and don't need a diesel. A 1500 would easily suffice but I like a SFA and the rigidity of an actual truck.

I thought figures like $8 to $10k off was still happening. I've seen $10k off MSRP on diesel 4x4 in inventory advertised. I don't think I've ever heard anyone getting $15k off MSRP. Not even when they wern't selling anything. Thats not the case now.
SFA on 2500 Rams are chronic, as per my expeirances on my 06, 2500 not much has changed in the dodge solid axle design in HD trucks... Take a long hard look and reserach a Dodge SFA and dont just asume their better or that warenty issues will be solved.
GM has the right ideal with indepndant front suspension on a 2500, as vibration is not transferd threw a solid axle as well as the dodge design that fries ball joints, front unerversal joints.
I used to thinkk solid axles were the way to go, but not now.
AS for price, its only worth waht you decide to pay, don't give any one a break, you work hard for your money on a 40,000 truck offer 30,000...
Its not like thier's a shortage of thease trucks!!
Hemi Rocks!!!

Glad to hear of your good fortune, enjoy it. The thing about ordering a truck to suit you is they may not give you as big of a break on the price that way compared to buying one out of inventory. What you might want to do is find a dealer willing to look around for an existing truck on other lots. I have had good luck with that a couple of times but had to look around to find a dealer willing to look around and work out a swap for a truck from a different dealer. Good Hunting.
Other then price, cost changes on older inventory the dealer can have less cost, make more money on a ordered vehicle. They are not out any interest on floor plan money. They order, they deliver it quickly. They realise more profit.
Well I'm super pumped on the promotion, However, after doing some math, I am probably making a better decision in the long run to just fix up my 03' ram. Its a bummer I would love a new truck but at my age, I don't think it would be the best decision. Thank you for the help.
As for the future, Ill just save up and buy the truck I really want which is the CTD. Thanks again for the info. When the time comes, I will probably just buy a truck already in the inventory.

and to be completely honest with you man, I bought my truck at the time because I was towing some good loads daily, and alot has changed since then, where I hardly use it for that anymore. If your not doing some seriously hauling, I would go 1500. Gas is only going to go up, and a 1500 is alot easier on the wallet. not to mention the 1500 is supposed to be one of the nicest handling trucks (I have yet to drive one)
I toy with the idea of trading my truck in for a 1500, but its just not even worth it
