Default Electronic Tailgate Lock

Has anyone installed this lock kit or any likes of it on the 2012 crew cab yet? I get so tired of taking the key in and out of my fob to lock and unlock tailgate. I have a BakFlip G2 cover on my truck, so I like to keep stuff in there like my golf clubs, tools, etc and usually keep it locked. But after installing this kit its supposed to work along with the door locks. If anyone has installed this and has any feedback, I would appreciate hearing what you have to say about it. Thanks guys.

i have had the pace brand electronic lock on since 2009, its great to have and i love it.

my truck is an early build 2009 before they started putting in the key lock, so i would have had to upgrade and replace my entire tailgate handle assembly to use the mopar one your looking at.

i also have a early 09 and i installed the mopar kit you are looking at if you have keyless entry and power locks you do not have to replace the entire assembly.the kit upgrades your existing latch assembly.its a fairly easy and straight forward upgrade depending on your mechanical ability.if i remeber correctly it took me less than an hour.did it over 2 years ago and no problems.really glad i did it

Is it just plug and play? Or, do I get to run some wiring too?

You need to run a couple wires up to the TIPM and splice them into the harness

You are also going to need a drill to drill a hole for rivets if kit is same, simple work.

I did it and it is just some time. Kind of three parts to the deal. Installing the power lock and getting that all linked up took an hour. Running the wire to the front took a half hour and then splicing in took about an hour. The splicing in part was the most stressful. I have a hard cover so now everything is locked and safe. A great mod.

Is there a plug at the tailgate that is accessible? So if you want to remove your tailgate can you just unplug it?

You have to remove the access panel and that exposes the entire locking mechanism. I did not remove me tailgate and don't see an advantage in doing so. Once you have the panel off you can follow the instructions. It takes a few tries and you need a pop rivet tool. I did a google search and found some pretty detailed instructions. FYI - you need a lock on your tailgate, this then make you able to lock/unlock remotely. I will want this option on any truck I ever own in the future.
