Actually, he asked what Generation his HEMI was, not his truck!
OP has a 2nd Generation Hemi engine
OP has a 4th Generation Dodge Ram truck
I guess you could even go as far as saying it'd be a 3rg Gen Hemi because they added MDS in 2006, but the engine otherwsie was identical from 2002-2008. 2009+ varied drastically.
That's seems more like what I was thinking. I found out I don't have the MDS ignition box so I don't have to worry if I have MDS after all. Thanks for all the info.
Obviously I want to get the best gas mileage as I can without spending all the green for duel exhaust and upgrading air intake system. However I want to get a K&N air filter. I was shopping for one and auto zone has a Spectra air filter that is supposedly comparable to the K&N filter. 2 questions about them, first does the oil that is sprayed on these filters affect any air flow sensors, the auto zone guy said it might. Second does anybody have any info on Spectra filters compared to K&N filters in regards to performance? Spectra is half the price of the K&N.

MDS is not an ignition box. It is the Muti Displacement System which you "do" have if your truck is a 2010 1500 and has a Hemi. They all have it. If you want the best MPGs, then this will help achieve them. It switches the engine to 4 cyl when in light load situations.
Also be aware that you have to use the correct oil in the engine for it to operate properly. And that is 5W20 only. Takes 7 qts to do a change with the filter.
I personally would not run any filter with oil on it. Your choice though. I would use stock or a Dry Flow style. Especially with a stock truck.
A air filter like you describe and another muffler will NOT improve MPG on these trucks. It will get you more noise and less filtering. The FACTORY air box and filter perform very well as they are. If your after more MPG only don't waste your money on those items. Your driving habits are the biggest factor.
