Default Tires 275/65/20 how happy are you.

I have read through existing threads dealing with tires for information. I plan to keep my 2009 Ram stock (no lift or leveling). I currently have the 275/60/20 Goodyears. I would like to upgrade to a higher load range all terain tire (load class E, 10ply vs load call B 4 ply). I also am trying to stay as close to the original tire size as possible.

It seems almost all the tires in the 275/60/20 are 4 ply tires. If I go up to a 275/65/20 there are numerous options for 8 to 10 ply tires.

My question is if you are running 275/60/20,
what tire brand is it
how is the ride and road noise from the tire
any clearance issues? (shouldn't be any tire is same width and only 1 inch taller)
did you buy a matching spare and does it fit in the spare tire carrier

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Default 275/65/20

I have an 09 Ram CC with 275/65/20 tires on it and I love them. They are the Cooper AT3's and they are probably the best tires I have ever owned. Zero road noise and very good in bad weather. I have over 30,000 miles on this set and I promise you I will buy another set when these wear out.

Suspension wise my truck is stock, never had any clearance issues. I did notice that it threw off my speedo a little bit (4-5 MPH at 60 MPH). I have a programer so I readjusted for the bigger tire. I think you will be really happy if you decide to go with the AT3's

I ran Cooper Zeon LTZ's on my old Dodge.

Same results. Loved them. When the tires on my new truck wear out, I'll be going back to Cooper.

Just my two cents....

Thanks,
the cooper atp is one I a looking at. I don't have a programer, but a dealer I talked to said they could most likely make the speedo adjustment for me.
Right now its spot on. the 275/65 would throw it off just over 2 mph, if I calculated it right.

I replaced my HP Wranglers with 275.60.20 Cooper AT3's , they give a quiet comfortable ride and are a great tire in the snow , my dealer told me I didn't need an LT tire on my 1500 as they are heavier and ride rougher.

Well after looking at reviews, etc. I decided to go with the Michelin LTX MS/2
275/60/20. Just got put on today. With most of my driving is on highway, and some exploring forest dirt roads. the mitchelins looked like a good compromise. I believe they are a 6 ply sidewall tire. Four Wheel Mag had a postive review on this tire for the type of driving I do.

Was basically $1,300 out the door at Discount Tire. included the tpms rebuild kit.

First impression is it is a very quite tire. The ride is great.

In a few months I will buy a 20 inch rim for a spare and get another. I made the mistake in 09 in not checking the spare that came with the truck. Its a temporary 17" 235/85/17. Not much diff in total height, but I prefer having my spare the same as what is on the ground.

I have the Michelin LTX M/S II's and love them for highway. Nice quiet tire. Handles great in the rain and hugs pretty well. I ised them one winter and decided to get snows. I didn't think they would get me out of a stuck situation if I got into one. I picked up some Silent Armours and they do great in the snow. They are actually fairly quiet on the highway as well. But I do more back road hilly-curvey driving so they work great for what I need. I love both sets.

I have LT275/65/20 goodyear wrangler AT/S tires. Great tire. No clearance issues at all. 1.04" taller than stock.

LT275/65R20 toyo open country AT2's here. First of all they fit...without a levelling kit and tons more traction in all conditions than the goodyear garbage.
This is my second set of toyos so i know they'll perform and last a while.
Mileage dropped a bit cuz its a 10 ply tire but I'll take that any day over having to deal with the goodyear garbage i had before.
