Default New CNG Ram

Just picked up my new 2013 Ram 2500 with the factory installed CNG system. It's pretty awesome! No noticeable loss of power when switching from gasoline to CNG. Supposed to be able to get 300 miles on a tank. I'll let you know how that goes.

Couldn't upload pics from an iPhone, but was able to put them in my photo gallery if you're interested.

300 miles combined or just gas or just CNG? Cuz my '01 360 gas hog can get 300+ a tank.

The online info says 18 gallon equivalent of CNG and either 8 or 35 (I think) of gasoline. The 35 would be nice but you would have to be sure to use it on a regular basis to keep it fresh. Keep us posted, if the infrastructure develops I might have to check into one.

Yeah I had been driving a Chevrolet with an aftermarket CNG kit. And it was pretty easy to swap over from gasoline to CNG. This one automatically defaults to CNG. So it's definitely something to watch.

Down here in NW Louisiana, the infrastructure is here for CNG. You can drive from Shreveport to Baton Rouge and back, and have multiple fueling stations along the way. Our corporate office in Plano, TX has a private fuel station as well. So it's coming. Just give it time.

Very cool! How much was this option? Do you have the 5.7? Curious how much you are spending on filling the tank.

I looked into an aftermarket version for my personal truck, but decided that since I was only driving it on weekends and on vacation, I didn't want to finance another 10 Grand. I wasn't privvy to the price tag since it belongs to the company. I have filled it with CNG twice and got about 230 miles out of each tank. So it either has a break-in period for the CNG, or that's what I can expect to get. I want to say it was about $20-$25 to fill up the CNG, but again, it's a company truck and I have a fuel card. It's just exciting for me to get to drive it.

It does have the 5.7 Hemi.

Yes. There's a slow fill system that you can purchase for your house. The idea is that you plug it in at night, and it refills the system for the next day. I'm unsure of the cost, but if you're interested, PM me an email address and I can probably get some literature on it.
