help with broken stud question
Here is what happened so far, my 2009 has 40,000 miles and took it in (again) for the exhaust bolts broken,THIS time a bolt snapped off in the head, and needs a new head, they ordered a new head came in in a timely manner, they put it on, and water shot out from the back of it, after the install, I was told that it was a bad one from the factory, when I called they told me that the 5.7 heads were on back order , 500 of them, is this true?, and what exactly is wrong with them?, would you know when they will release some.???my truck has been taken care of ..PERFECTLY, my records are spotless on all service, they are taking care of all of it through lifetime warranty, and I understand and I know they are doing all they can...just seems weird... turned out to be a bad thing, and my truck might be down for a long time......being a mechanc myself it kinda stings when you cant help them repair it
I just went through this at 86k miles. I had the exhaust bolt RRT done back in 09 for cylinder 7 and 8. Started ticking last month when cold at first start up and quieted down after a minute or two. Took it in for annual safety and emission inspection and front shocks replacement since one was leaking oil and had this done while there. One of the replaced, probably 'made in China' bolts actually broke off and they could not get it out of the head. So, head was pulled and sent to a local machine shop and bolt removed. While reassembling, tech noticed short runner valve was cracked so that was replaced as well. Total down time was 3 days, would have been just 2 if the SRV did not need to be ordered. All is quiet again, also drove through a torrential down pour rain storm for about 1/2 hour so it also is now cleaned up real nice. Great service from dealer ( in fact, always from this dealer ) and the exhaust manifold bolts/gasket/head/head gasket, srv and all labor etc.. all covered under lifetime powertrain warranty - with no deductible.
I can believe the heads would be on backordered. It takes me 4 weeks to get a cylinder head for the caravan 3.6 engines. And at least 3 weeks for a complete 6.1 engine. And 3 weeks to get the new n18 recall for the challengers. Dodge cares may not be able to have a answer on parts available. I'll check with our parts department.
