Exclamation 2013 8speed tranny question please help

I have a 2013 ram 1500 8 speed transmition I parked in the parking lot and went shopping. When I came out to go elswhere the truck would start but I couldn't move the dial into any gear it was locked in park. After messing around with the gear buttons on the steering wheel and rocking the truck it allowed me to move dial to a different position and worked fine. When trying to put it into gear all it said was service shifter but nothing appears in the message board when I look. Please help

Uh oh, that's not good. I don't know the answer, but I'd get into the dealer ASAP. It might just be a loose wire, then again it could be something on the verge of going really, really bad.

Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds then restart. Like a reboot on your computer ... which is basically what controls our trucks these days. Also, there is a reset lever, I remember reading about it in the manual. Mine with the 6-speed is on the console but yours is on or under the dash, you'll see it in the manual. If it happens again, I'd have the dealer check the controller.

Pages 153 and 154 of the User Guide give instructions for the shift lever/dial override if you cannot move it out of PARK. However, if you use this you will need to go to the dealer ASAP.
