Camper Towing
I have a 2010 Ram Quad Cab 4x4 Hemi with 3.55 gears, I am towing a 2011 Keystone Passport GT Ultra Lite which weighs about 7,000lbs. I installed the OEM trailer brake controller and everything seems to work fine except when I am at low speeds between 1 and about 30 mph that brakes seem to surge a lot when I barely push the truck brakes. If I'm going over 30mph and I apply adequate brakes the read out says like 30 and it seems normal until it drops to lower speeds and then again starts to surge. Also if I am stopped at a light and go to take off it takes a second or two after my foot is off the pedal for the trailer brakes to release.
Anyone have these issues at all? Or know how to fix them? Any help is much appreciated!

I have taken it all the way down to 0.0 and they still grab/surge at the low speeds.

I didn't even think about that, I will give it a try the next time we take the TT out and see if it does anything for it. Thanks for the suggestion.
Getting off track, I currently pull a 4200lb TT that is closer to 5300 fully loaded. It tows great even here in the 10,000 foot elevations. I am now looking at a 6800lbB TT (empty weight) and wondering how well it would tow with my 1500. How does your 1500 Hemi do with the 7000lb trailer, is that empty weight or loaded? Thanks
The first time I took it out it seemed to want to push the back end of the truck around a little, I didn't have the sway bar on for this trip and this was the first time using the equalizer bars as well. The next time I moved up 1 or 2 links on the bars and used the sway bar as well and we towed it from Colorado Springs to Ouray up over Monarch Pass which is 7 miles up....UP...UP! The TT did a whole lot better this trip as well as on the way home. Right as we were getting back to the Springs we hit a storm and the winds were crazy, a gust would hit the TT and make my butt pucker but the sway bar did it's job and never let it go anywhere. (All this was just after seeing an F-150 on it's side and his trailer in the ditch on highway 50). The truck did great now that I know which links to put the equalizer bars on and use the sway bar.
Well my truck is rated (from what the dodge sheet says) for about 8500lbs towing. The TT weighs about 7,000-7,200lbs loaded, I haven't been able to get it weighed to know for sure.
