When to wax your new truck
nothing eleminates the need for wax. those quick gimmie prodeucts do more harm then good. Try "zaino" products and some good ol fashion elbow grease.
Talk to any professional detailer or just look it up: It's a three step process, first clean the paint. Sometimes that means using the clay bar but if you have been taking good care of the finish (good coat of wax) it may not be necessary. Only use a soap designed for washing car paint.
Next is the polish. This is the most important step. This is what makes it shine.
Last is the wax. This is just for protection. If it is not polished correctly, no amount of wax will fix that.

Clay bar is the most undervalued item that can be used on a car.
Every car I have had new felt like a minefield (with the plastic glove on), from railyards etc...
After clay bar it felt like glass. Second the motion for Zaino's product line. First used Zaino in 1998 on a minivan

Sorry but no "good" wax will allow the water to "sheet". The waxes/sealants are considered hydrophobic meaning that the water will bead up and roll off. A measure of that is surface tension. (I work in coatings, that's how I know this) To see an extreme example of this, look up Neverwet. The more it beads, the better. If you have a really good coat of wax, the water will fall off the truck before it drys there. The best coat of wax will never allow the truck to get wet no matter how hard it's raining.
Thank you. I was doing some searching today, and found the Zaino car wax site, and found the same info there. Thanks again, so it looks like I'm stuck washing the truck everyday around here. It's so dusty around here, 10 minutes after washing it's got a small layer of dust on it already. I'm looking at Wolfgangs Fuzion, Zaino, and a few others. Anyone have pros or cons on anything? I've used Ice, which I use to like, but it seems the new Ice stays kind of gooey. If you try to use a duster on it, it smears. So for me that's a no on the new Ice. I have also used the Black Box, and looked good for a few days, but I wasn't impressed with it. I have Mothers Carnauba on it now, and I'm not impressed either. Thanks again.
Oh there is material that will work just like Neverwet. Basically that's what Rain-x is. Some fall into the category of superhydrophobic. Using it on your paint is just not economically feasible. Those coatings are so thin, they wear out quickly.
