Default HID projector headlight questions

I'm looking to possibly add HID's and I want to get a set of projectors. I've done a lot of research here and I know there's TONS of opinions. I'm basically doing it for the looks and not so concerned about the light output as I live in a well lit, populated area.

I'm not looking to pour tons of money into the project and have already researched some of the threads here suggesting retro fit's.

Here's what I'd like to do and the questions:

I'm thinking the Anzo's from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/09-10-Dodge-...8e69cf&vxp=mtr

Who has the Anzo's and what bulb size do they use- I've heard H9's but that's not bi-xenon. I was also thinking of going with 35 watt DDM tuning or possibly retro solutions lights.

Feedback would be great but I'm not looking to stir up lots of debates over opinions.

Thanks!

pretty much any projector headlight you get (aftermarket) will have crappy output. Hate to break it to you.

And that's stupid that you don't care about the light output. Headlights are a safety feature. Can you make them better than OEM, in most cases - yes. But the mindset off the bat that you really don't care about the output is bothersome.

Anyway, here's a retrofit I did on my Fusion. I took the OEM headlight with a halogen based projector and direct bolt swap out for an HID projector. Here's my lighting output.

Also, scroll around the hid forum.. this member Outlaw has done a few retrofits on his ram. Fairly easy to do he said.

Thanks, don't take my comment about the light output to heart. All I mean is that many have complained about the cut off's and comparisons between halogen and hid. I wouldn't expect a cheaper aftermarket to be any better than a stock.

Well I'd expect the aftermarket projectors to be worse than stock.

I know this because of 2012 Ram 2500

The stock RAM HID projectors work good.

I'd love to throw on a set of the new stock headlights, but so far I haven't seen anyone producing kits to swap over. I know one guy on here put in the new lights in his 2010/2011, but ended up fabricating his own connection harnesses.

I heard they were nothing more than a halogen bulb inside the projector housing on the 2013 trucks. Anyone know if this is true...???... if it is, i wont waste my time finding a set of them for my 10. (not a true HID bulb) I do know that the 2013 headlight harness is alot different than the 12`s on back to 09`s.

You're correct, they are not HID. Lots of people were excited when the '13 was first announced with projectors - thinking they had to be HID - and there was a lot of talk of retrofitting, but once it was learned that the projectors were just halogens I abandoned that idea. They might be better than stock ones on our older Rams, but they aren't HID good. Not worth the money (almost $600 per side??).

I got my HID kit from HIDExtra it came with 2 bulbs and ballasts for under $50 and then I needed a $20 resistor but that's was 2 years ago and they still run strong. I used stock headlamp assembly. They are brighter than the brights that came with the kit and I don't get flashed at so they don't seem to bother other drivers. I got a little hotter bulb than I wanted so they are slightly blue.

The bulbs used in the 2013 projector headlights are the HIR2 (9012) bulb. The bulb was only produced by two companies, Phillips and Toshiba, with from what I understand, Phillips being the only one producing them. They've very similar to the 9006 halogen bulb and will use the same wiring connector as the 9006. The only physical difference from the 9006 bulb is the top tab is bigger on the HIR2. Trimming this tab will allow this bulb to work in a headlight designed for the 9006 bulb. This from hirheadlights.com: These bulbs attain light levels 75% to 110% brighter than stock as a result of an engineering process that deposits multiple, yet almost invisible, layers of semi-reflective coating on the surface of a specially shaped quartz bulb. This coating ( a titania/silica, zinc oxide/silica, zirconia/silica, silicon nitride/silica, and titania/magnesium fluoride tantalam/silica multi-layer dielectric, according to the patent) reflects a portion of the infrared energy emitted by the filament back onto the filament, causing it to glow brighter and emit more light from the uncoated forward portion of the bulb. Although the filament gets hotter, the glass does not.

They're not real easy to find but were able to find them at Amazon. AutoZone can get them but it doesn't show up in their system so they had to do some crossreferencing of numbers to find them. They run about $25 each for replacements so I bought a couple spares for when mine do burn out.
