Default camshaft position actuator solenoid

check engine light came on p0013

apparently the camshaft position actuator solenoid needs to be replaced, but im having a hard time finding it online.

ive googled it, searched on this site, and went to a couple auto part stores and they keep showing a camshaft position sensor (the one down by the tranny), but that one is fine

a mechanic friend of mine told me the camshaft position actuator solenoid is located towards the top of the engine and theres more than one

can anyone help me out?

No year and no engine size makes it pretty difficult to help you.

2013 3.6 Pentastar has those too which is why I was asking. 2 on each side.

Yours has one in the center. It's not a sensor, it a variable valve timing actuator, or solenoid. The solenoid directs oil to the phaser (camshaft sprocket). It's under the intake manifold.

Why do you think it failed...??? What oil and filter are you running in this engine...?

oil changes have been through the dealership so im assuming they put what was recommended. i just bought it and service records say it was all changed out last month

the check engine code read p0013. i looked it up and it says camshaft position actuator solenoid fault, cmp actuator open or short circuit

i know it can probably be the wiring, but im just gonna replace it then take it down for diagnostics

Are you having any drivability issues...? Rumor has it that these are a problem in only the 09 hemi trucks. I think they changed them before the 10`s got out on the market. Dont hold me to that statement, i`m not positive on that particular issue with these trucks. Just going by what others have told me here in the local hemi truck scene.

are there any noticeable issues?? none whats so ever. theres some noises and vibration but a mechanic said that is just an exhaust leak and i might need to check the engine mounts for new bushings

but the mechanic also said the truck could be running alot better. i have a 96 toyota that was my daily driver for years, so driving the ram now is a HUGE difference, which is why i cant even tell that its not running at its full potential

Are you the original owner? I would think that this item would be covered under the lifetime powertrain.
